Warm Up Challenge-Layers and More Layers!

Yes this is exactly what it says, layers on cards. More layers then any card should be made to wear, but it is pretty darn cold here and layers are the way to go.

Pick out 10 pieces of paper, hopefully 10 that go together on the color wheel or accent each other in some way. They do not need to be full sheets, they in fact can be scraps. I pulled out a 6 x 6 tablet and used that because most of the time the entire book of paper should be color coordinated. I pulled out My Minds Eye-Notable. This one has strips and itty bitty journaling cards and all sorts of goodness.

I guess I picked 5 different pages but 10 different patterns since this paper is double sided.  Now to dig out those dies that make shapes.  I have some rounds, some ovals, some squares, and some rectangles.  I picked out a bunch and started die cutting.

Now there are ten different shapes out of ten cordinating papers.  Next is to lay them out and see how they will work together.

Ok that looks pretty good, I really didn't want to put too much thought into the placing since this is a no thought warm up challenge for the upcoming Artsy Inkers Winterfest 2016.  I took all these shapes and inked the edges with ground espresso distress ink.

I glued them all down and then cut off the right hand side that hung over the edge of the card.  I stamped a circle stamp that says Happy Birthday for the center and put to you with a brown pen on the itty bitty die cut towards the bottom.  Anyone who is a scrapbooker will sort of recognize this because this layering is used quite often by scrapbookers on pages.  I then got out the stickles glitter glue and went lightly around the outside of each die cut.  I used a clear, a gold, and a brown.  The brown is around the largest die cut only.  The gold is also on the present.

This turned out pretty nice and was a good warm up that didn't really take all that much thought.  I hope you join in on this warm up challenge and also join us on Artsy Inkers for Winterfest 2016 starting next weekend.  Thank you for looking.

Valentines 2016

Here it is 2016 and Valentines is right around the corner.  I made several Valentines cards and 17 tags this year.  I haven't taken a picture of the tags yet so that will have to wait for another day.

This card is sort of a cheat because the paper itself has the bird and the background and the sentiment on it already.  I just cut the paper so the part I wanted to show was in the place I wanted it.  I cut the heart using Tim Holtz scribbly heart die out of watercolored paper.  I stamped the birds using a Dina Wakely stamp and then colored them in using colored pencils.  I put two round jewels on the side of the heart and called it a day.  I think this turned out pretty darn good for a cheater card.

This card is done using different patterned paper cut with dies into shapes.  I used a sizzix dies to cut the large hearts.  I used a Simon Says Stamp wavy scallop stitches die for the scalloped edges on the two pieces that go across the card.  I used a hand punch and punched out the itty bitty hearts that go up the side of the card.  I stamped the happy valentines sentiment and then watercolored the paper to match the rest of the card.  I put two heart brads on the sentiment and some sequins on the larger hearts.  I used a white pen to put a little white along the side of the itty bitty hearts to make them look like the light is hitting them.

This card started as a piece of watercolor paper onto which I stamped the heart with embossing ink and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  I watercolored the heart and then the background of that piece.  I then took a tiny Prima background stamp and stamped the background of the watercolor paper.  I then tied twine around the bottom.  I found a pice of patterned paper for the background and die cut the Tim Holtz Honeycomb panel and just used the inside.  I put the outside down where I wanted the inside and then glued the inside down and picked the outside up.  I then measured where the middle would go and stamped the sentiment along the side of the watercolor paper on the background.  I used foam tape to place the watercolored heart piece onto the background and the card was done.

This card also started out as a blank piece of watercolor.  I stamped and watercolored the Dina Wakely heart and watercolored the background in blue.  I happened to cut out a bunch of cogs and gears from three different Memory Box dies.  I took the gears and glued them to the heart on the watercolor paper.  I cut the outside of the watercolor paper with a stiched square die and then found a piece of patterned paper to go along with the red and put the watercolor paper onto that.  The two pieces were then put onto the card base which is pearl white.

Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy looking as much as I enjoyed making them.

January 2016 Coloring Challenge on Artsy Inkers

The beginning of the year also brought a new challenge on Artsy Inkers.  The challenge was to color an image using watercolor markers.  Since I have several kinds of watercolor markers I made three entries for the challenge.

Here are two of the entries newly stamped on watercolor paper.

This image is Paper Artsy stamps and is colored with Tombow markers.  I used a red, an orange, and a yellow marker.  I blended with a waterbrush.

This image is also stamps by Paper Artsy.  I colored these using Distress markers.  I also blended with a waterbrush.

This image is a LaLaLand stamp and is colored using the Zig Real Brush Clean Color markers.  I used a gel pen to make the nail heads.

All of these images are mounted onto scrapbooking paper that is one sided so the inside is white.  Thank you for looking.  To check out the Challenge go Here!
