Pharmacy board bans K2 synthetic marijuana |
|
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 10:08 |
|
WHAT IS K2/SPICE? It is sold as incense, but it has become increasingly popular to smoke it like marijuana.
Its chemicals are undetectable in drug tests.
IS K2/SPICE LEGAL? Currently, K2/Spice is legal in most states. It was banned in Chile, France, Germany, South Korea, Sweden and Switzerland as of 2009, and it is under review in several other countries.
WHAT'S IN IT? The ingredients on the packaging do not list the synthetic substances present in K2/Spice. Each bag of K2/Spice could contain a different mix of the synthetic chemical substances.
It is reported to contain numerous cannabinoid-type substances.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF SMOKING IT? Effects are similar to those of smoking marijuana or otherwise ingesting the chemical THC.
Users of K2/Spice have been described as being sneaky or paranoid, having slurred speech, appearing high, having difficulty keeping balance, and trashing rooms.
Others have reported feeling light-headed, drowsy and happy.
WHAT ARE LONG-TERM EFFECTS? There have been no long-term studies of the use of K2/Spice.
WHERE IS IT SOLD? K2/Spice has been sold in Iowa tobacco shops and novelty stores as an "herbal incense." It's also available over the Internet.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? K2/Spice can cost up to $30 to $35 per gram.
By comparison, marijuana can sell for about $80 for 14 grams, or about $5.70 a gram.
"The Iowa Board of Pharmacy voted Tuesday to ban the sale of K2, a synthetic version of marijuana that is sold as incense. Lloyd Jessen, the board's executive director, said the ban takes effect today.
K2 was implicated in the June suicide of an Indianola teenager. The substance, also known as Spice, can cause a marijuana-like high for some users, but experts say it can also cause anxiety, hallucination and seizures.
State officials had talked about asking legislators to ban the substance when they return to the Statehouse in January. But the pharmacy board decided to act on its own, passing an emergency measure reclassifying K2 as a Schedule I drug, meaning it cannot be legally sold or possessed."
Who knew that such a substance existed? A legal form of marijuana that makes a person paranoid and anxious. /sarcasm on/ Sounds like a good time, huh!?sarcasm off/.
I wonder what it smells like if you actually burn it in your house as incense? Probably not a fruity, sweet smell like a candle.

Adopt a Baby Skunk - Get Rabies Shots |
|
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 09:53 |

"State health officials say a northwestern Iowa family has learned the hard way that some cute little animals should be left alone.
Someone in the family found a baby skunk and brought it home to raise as a pet, but after several weeks the skunk became ill. A veterinarian found it had rabies.
All five family members are receiving the rabies vaccine. In addition, more than 20 other family members and friends who came in contact with the skunk are being tested for rabies, and at least six others are receiving rabies shots.
Officials say the family dog did not have a rabies vaccination and will either have to be put into quarantine for six months or euthanized."
Well Crap! At least they found out the family pet skunk had rabies before one of the family members actually became sick with rabies. So that is a good thing. I can not imagine bringing a skunk into my home and treating it like a pet. The poor family dog is the one that will probably pay the ultimate price for this pet fiasco.

Bacon is once more our true, national food crush, spanning all ages, all cultures and all meals |

"We give you the KFC Double Down, two slabs of fried chicken and melted cheese all squeezed around a sacred centerpiece — two pieces of bacon. The breadless sandwich that some are calling “angina on a plate” debuts at KFC restaurants on Monday. If customers order the Original Recipe variety, their Double Down will pack 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium, according to KFC."
Oh my goodness, nnnoooo; bacon?
Geez fast food places have been putting bacon (if you can really call what they use bacon) in all sorts of things for added flavor. With bacon you get a lot of flavor for your buck, so of course fast food places are going to use it. I am so going to have to try this now that it has been brought to my attention. How about you?

Actor Corey Haim Dies at 38 |
|
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 11:23 |
|
"Corey Haim, a 1980s teen heartthrob for his roles in "Lucas" and "The Lost Boys" whose career was blighted by drug abuse, has died. He was 38.
Haim died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death and there were no other details, she said. Police Sgt. Michael Kammert said there's no evidence of foul play.
Haim had flulike symptoms before he died and was getting over-the-counter and prescription medications, Police Sgt. William Mann said. The cause of death is unknown, Mann said.
"He could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs. Who knows?" Mann said. "He has had a drug problem in the past."
Earlier, police officials told CBS Radio News that the actor died of an apparent drug overdose, though it's unknown what kind of drug was involved."
This is so sad. I still own "The Lost Boys" on VCR and watch it occasionally. I never watched the 2 Coreys show so I still think of him as Jason Patrick's little brother. That movie is a classic. The redo "The Lost Boys 2" is not half as good as the original. Now I am going to have to watch this again and try not to think of the little brother strung out on drugs.

JFK condolence letters published for 1st time |
|
Monday, 08 March 2010 11:01 |
|
Ellen Fitzpatrick "wrote" this book that includes 240 of the 1.5 million letters sent to JFK's widow after his death in 1963. She tracked down and got the permission from the letter writers to be included in the book. She will probably make much money from this book; since people are still intriqued by JFK after all these years.
