Paper Smooches Cross Stitch & Tim Holtz Woodland

I have been stitching these backgrounds for a couple of months. I made over sixty of them and turned twenty-five of them into Christmas cards. The die-cutting and layering of the die-cuts also took a long time, working on a few at a time. Tip: I found it easier to layer the trees if I replaced the bottom layer back into the negative space and left it there while placing the top layer on top. Once the trunk and bottom part matched up, it was easy to do the rest, just nudging some of the branches into place with tweezers. I searched through a ton of cardstock to find the perfect one to go with each background. It’s only 1/16 inch wide, but it makes a huge difference. On one card, I needed to use a marker to color the mat.

CARDS:
4 5/8 x 5 ¾ inches (9 ½ x 5 ¾ inches, scored at 4 5/8 inches)
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110-lb. cardstock (card base, bottom layer of trees)
G-Rated Rubberstamps Textured Glossy cardstock (top layer of trees)
Recollections Mercury Glass Christmas/Noel paper pack (gold trees)
Many different cardstocks (mats, 4 1/8 x 5 ¼ inches)
Paper Smooches Cross Stitch die (trimmed to 4 x 5 1/8 inch, about ½-inch border)
DMC Coton Perlé Color Variations embossing floss, size 5
Sizzix/Tim Holtz Woodlands die set (two layers)
Impression Obsession snowflake dies, DIE-024-X (two of the cards)
Lawn Fawn Mini Snowflakes, LF995 (two of the cards_
White glitter paper (snowflakes)
Tombow Marker, 729 (mat on one card)
Lawn Fawn Glue Tube (applied to the back of the stitching)
3M Foam Mounting Tape (attached around the stitching)
ATG Gun

Such a pretty, peaceful, clean and simple look though we know it was far from simple to make! I love it! I'll definitely go to scrapbook.com soon. Thanks for sharing your tip for layering such a fine die cut.

Fabulous backgrounds your stitching makes for these trees!

Wow! That is a lot of stitching! Beautiful background. I have found that those trees can be hard to place on a card - hard to get out of the die too! Thanks for the tip. Very Happy
