Posted in "other", first baby onesie.

I bought the smallest Cricut EasyPress 2 on HSN a month ago ... for projects just like this!

I cut a stencil from freezer paper using a Silhouette Cameo and pressed it on to the onesie with the heat press. I used Plaid Fabric Creations soft fabric ink and pounced it on with a sponge. I had to wait 24 hours and now I can heat set it, and supposedly in 72 hours it can be washed. I hope it holds up well. I bought just the two colors of the fabric ink, just to try it out. It was easy to use and clean up. Time will tell ... Oh, and they show it being used with stamps, so that's a possibility.

So many decisions, ha! Once I picked the design, I was torn between heat transfer vinyl (I don't have much, and no yellow), stencil with fabric paint, or screen print. I still want to try screen print someday, but it seems like more set-up for just one small onesie. Supposed to be great for multiples though. The freezer paper stencil is a one-time use deal.

It was satisfying to make something using some of my more expensive tools! Of course, there are many ways to cut a stencil and a regular iron could be used so this project is accessible to anyone. The ink was about $2.50 for a 2oz bottle at Hobby Lobby, but I used a coupon. It was with all the tee shirts, tie dyes and fabric markers. I bought the onesie at Hobby Lobby too, on sale for about $3.50. Last night I went to JC Penney and bought some Carter's long sleeve onesies, but on first appearances, I kind of like the one I got at Hobby Lobby better! I think the fabric is a little heavier. We'll have to see how they hold up in the wash.

TFL!

That is darling! I'm glad you explained the process because I really didn't know what the Cricut Easy Press was. TFS. Daria

That is just darling! Some of the gals at the craft group use those heat set vinyls and stuff. I think you did well with this cute design!
