For the Material Girl challenge I created an accordion folded art journal and made a cover on muslin. Since I planned to leave the edges of the muslin raw I took time to straighten the gain and cut accordingly. Clear embossing paste was spread over a stencil to create a dimensional focal image. When dry I misted the background with distress stains. With the clean stencil placed over the clear image I painted with Stewart Gill’s Meta Mica-verde gris paint. It has a high shine silver metallic look when caught in the light. I overstamped the background with distress inks on the upper left and bottom.
Decorative trim was added and the fabric attached to watercolor paper to raise it above the base. A white felt mat was cut and edges pinked and added tiny bits of stickles. The panel was sealed with distress glaze.
The base is Arches watercolor paper cut 6”tall and scored for panels 4.25” wide and provides 14 surfaces for my work. Blended shaded lilac distress ink across the background of the cover. I made a fabric bead from front panel scraps. I used Ranger multi medium matte to adhere layers.
