Wall hanging for the baby's room
|
When I asked my daughter if they had any ideas or a theme for the baby's room, she said something about mountains. There are no mountains in this picture, but you still get that feel from the tent and trees, I hope. She and her husband like to hike and camp.
Bare wood frame : Jillybean Soup Mix the Media(found at Joann's)
Paint : Heidi Swapp Marquee Love faux whitewash kit (not sure where I bought this particular kit, but I just bought a few more at Tuesday Morning for, I think, $1.99) . The kit comes with a base color, taupe in this case, a top color - white, a tiny silver ink cube , foam brush and chip brush. They also sell faux rust and another faux metal, tin?
Cut file : Planeta Silhouette, found in the Silhouette Design store
I cut black glossy vinyl (not too glossy though, which I'm glad of) and applied it to the frame backer. The back piece comes out, making it easier to paint and apply vinyl. I thought about cutting it as a stencil instead, and painting on the design ... but the wood was really rough, even after I sanded it a bit. I just knew that paint would bleed under the stencil and make a mess. I didn't want to risk it after all of the time I spent painting and distressing! After the fact I wonder if I should have painted the frame a different color than the back? Oh well, if they want to, they can take the back off and paint the frame another color. The baby's crib will be white. I know her friend made a quilt with grays, white and yellow in it, and maybe some light teal? I don't know how people make all of those signs and sell them! I think I stress too much. Oh well, not bad for my first sign.
