I have responded to Melissa’s forum posts as she searched for an India ink that bleeds with other colors when wet. Since I had not tried my marker yet and needed a card for a “new” something for this month’s MMCC DT challenge I decided to give the marker a whirl. Heidi, thanks for the nudge to try this marker!

My first step was penciling in the rocks onto watercolor paper. I adapted a sea foam stencil to create a perch for the bird. I used an extra fine black calligraphy marker (new to me) called Elegant Writer by Speedball and followed a few new techniques. Karlyn Holman teaches the techniques in this You Tube video. I outlined the stones with the marker. Wetting the black circles causes the ink to bleed and so I brushed the ink onto the background. When it became too wet I gently tapped it dry with a tissue. Moving the water changes the colors to shades of pink. The ink becomes permanent when dry and then other watercolors can be added. It is a really fun technique and I hope to try it again in other applications.

The Magenta bird stamp is water-colored and accented with a Signo pen and sentiment stamped with black archival ink. The card with the Hampton Arts sentiment "spread your wings and fly " is appropriate for a wide variety of occasions where one is making a new beginning.

I really like the look that you got by spreading the ink from your pen. That could be really a fun way for people to stretch their stencils! Really fun card! Thanks for sharing and playing!

That technique worked perfectly on these rocks, they look great, love the swirls on the sentiment to go with the stylish bird!

This is fantastic. The bleeding ink technique really adds a lot of depth to the pebbles. Love the little scene you created. TFS Smile

Awesome card! I watched the Elegant Writer video and can't wait to get my hands on one! You did a great job with the rocks, leaving a nice amount of white space. I think that will be the hard part!

Beautiful effect. I'm saving your directions, and I'll look for the video. I didn't find a link in your description, but you gave enough information so that I'll be able to find it. TFS. Daria
