WF16-Neg--MB Reverse Butterfly Collage

I started this for my challenge on Artsy Inkers, Negativity at Its Best. The idea was to use a negative die-cut on a card. This one barely qualifies because the die really doesn't have a positive side to it. The only thing that is left over after die cutting the image are a lot of teeny tiny pieces that fall out of the butterfly--hardly a positive die-cut.

Card:
4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock, 110 lb. (card base)
G-Rated Rubber Stamps Textured Glossy Cardstock (die cut)
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, 90-lb. cardstock (painted)
Creatology Foam Sheet (die cut and used as foam mounting)
Twinkling H2O's (Rose Gold, Orange Peel, Dreamsicle, Celestial Sun)
Swarovski Rhinestones, SS12, SS16, and SS20
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Ruler (for paper piercing)

First, I painted a piece of cardstock with TH2O's and set it aside to dry.

Then I die cut the image out of the textured glossy cardstock. I also die cut the foam and cut out all the inside parts of the butterfly. I attached the two die-cuts with Zig Glue Pen.

I mounted the die-cuts on the painted cardstock, trimmed everything together, and mounted it onto a heavy-weight card base.

I attached the Swarovski rhinestones with Ranger Multi Medium Matte. I weighted those down and left them to dry.

I thought the card was finished, but I felt that it needed something more. I used the Tim Holtz Ruler that has a row of holes along the edge as a guide for paper piercing a border around the edges. Since I'd used a foam cushion behind the die-cut piece, that worked great, and the piercer didn't go through the heavy-weight cardstock.

TFL.

ah-h when I first glanced at the photo I thought it was embossed with a stencil. I love the slight variation in tones on the butterflies and the soft smimmer! The paper piercing is a wonderful finishing touch!

This is beautiful. I can't believe that you pieced all those itty bitty pieces on those butterflies. TFS

Sadie, I didn't piece together the butterflies. That's the way they look when you die cut them. The colored pieces are actually one piece of cardstock that I painted and put behind the die cut. Now that I look at the photo, if I look at it too long, the recessed areas seem to look like they are sitting on top of the cardsock. It really does look like I put those pieces on. lol Daria

Beautiful. Thanks for the explanation, I, too, thought you had glued all the little pieces on. Love the look of your background with your TH20, will have to check that out. Thanks for sharing.

I love all the shimmer and the gems. I think the piercing looks really nice with this card. Hooray! You made a card DURING the fest! I'm proud of you!
