Alcohol Ink Class project

I struggled with this one because the embossing on the skull is not very deep so I had a hard time getting at least the eyes and teeth to show up. Jan kept daring me to make at least some of the teeth black. Aaargh! A pirate skull? I think I finally rubbed a pearly wax paste over them. There is a partial die cut in the background with gold sparkle webbed ribbon behind it and a piece of copper ribbon tucked under the left side of the skull.

The skulls were die cut and embossed on Kirkland photo paper (Costco). We worked on the back side as the photo/glossy side would have grabbed the ink and not allowed it to flow.

Ranger Alcohol inks
Pinata Gold alcohol ink
pearl wax paste

This card is A6 size.

Pretty background. I think you did well with the skull. Not sure I would have known what to do either. Very Happy

I think the skull looks wickedly scary. The background is gorgeous. How did you make that? I confess to being confused. The back side of the photo paper is porous, isn't it? The front side is glossy. I would think that the alcohol ink would move better on the glossy side. TFS. Daria

The background of the card was cut with a diecut that only cuts a portion of a card layer. I think it is Tim Holtz. It was cut from a dark brown cardstock. There is a layer of metallic gold paper behind that, and sandwiched in between is some sparkly gold mesh ribbon. Photo paper is meant to grab and hold ink. You don't want your photo to look fluid and flowy. For some reason the back of Kirkland photo paper sold at Costco is coated, so it does allow the ink to flow. Not as slick as yupo though.
