Sept tag swap-pumpkins & distress products-sent to LeighAnn
|
I designed this layered tag to show some of the qualities of distress paint, stains, and inks. Understanding the different properties of each medium helps make layering fun.
Distress Paints are an ink-acrylic hybrid and act as a resist like other acrylic paints. Tapping the paint through a stencil tap through a stencil with a sponge is the best method to prevent oozing under the stencil. Once dry the distress paint is very smooth.
On the tag I used the distress paint for the background dots (salty ocean), leaf vine under the pumpkin and the green on the bottom leaf (mowed lawn) and copper on the veins in the larger leaf. You can see the paint pops through when stains and inks are added on top. The paint will retain more of its original color when cleaned with a damp rag.
Bright multi-colored backgrounds may look messy but adding a dark edge helps unify the look. Like many handmade backgrounds the look is far more pleasing once black images are stamped.
