Title: SF18 ATC? WINNER ANNOUNCED!!!
Post by: howdyheidi on July 01, 2018, 02:27:17 PM
In the last couple months I have seen some people start making ATCs that are actually not Artist Trading Cards, they are instead Artist Trading Coins.  I thought it sounded like something fun and different.

My sample:  http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=4047#top_display_media

I believe they are supposed to be a 2.5 inch circle.  If you don’t have that size punch or die (or cup to outline and cut out) just play along with something close.

You can make them any way you wish, except please start with a base of plain card stock, not patterned paper.  And include stamping.  You may choose to make them into a card or another project, but you don’t have to.

You may combine with any project except my other challenge.

I've been intrigued by these new trading coins and will definitely join in.  I cut close to 2.5 inches--it's the best I can do.  You sample is gorgeous.  Thanks for the challenge.

I’m glad to hear it!  I feel like they just showed up a couple months ago!

I have never heard of these "coins"!  They look really cool though.  I'm anxious to play with this size and shape.  Thanks for introducing me to something new.

I played last night and made three.  I have three more backgrounds to finish.

The one challenge to the making of coins is deciding what stamp fits nicely into the tiny 2.5 inch coin.

Here are my three:

Love your coins, Beth!

Yes, it does require a little thought to use that small space!  You nailed it!

Beth, I love your coins!

I diecut my 2.5 inch coin (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=4067#top_display_media) from one of my Aqua Wash backgrounds.  This was fun to make!  I can see myself making more.

Thanks for introducing me to these Heidi.

Just found out yesterday that one of the ladies at church who is 86 went into the hospital she has been fighting a cold and it turned into pneumonia, I wanted to send her a card so I used this challenge to make her one. I found that the inside measurements after embossing the spellbinder die is 2 1/2 inches :) My card measures 3 3/4 x 5 1/2

Connie, thanks for playing along.  That was a very clever way to get the 2.5 inches!  Thanks for sharing that.  You made a lovely card with the ATC.

I made 2 ATCs just alike so that both sides of the ornament had the same image.

If anyone is still working on this, your entry will count as long as it is added before I look in the morning.  I’m not a night owl, but I know other people are!

Thanks Heidi for the extra moments!  My card is posted in the gallery with description at:  http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=4101&message_id=61d999d7a118b49ba10a2079481f5c15&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock

I certainly made these round "ATC's in the 90's or then known as "pogs".  Lots of stampers at the time were making and collecting ATCs. So much so that common discussions were "how many ATC storage notebooks have you filled?"  Many stampers enjoyed working with a different shape.  However overtime it became evident that there was no easy way to store the size and shape of the POGs so they were rather short-lived.

I believe Tami Bayer aka Teabear brought the idea to Two Peas she scoured flea markets and shared a few of the actual game POGs.  Now having dies to cut the circles makes them so much faster to make.

Here is the back story on the POG name Urban dictionary description:
Pogs-thin cardboard discs about the diameter of a half-dollar coin. the term "pog" comes from a bottled fruit punch in hawaii, with the primary flavors {p}assion fruit, {o}range and {g}uava; the cardboard discs would come out of the lid.

In the mid-1990’s  pogs caught on in mainstream US culture, so companies sold the discs minus the drink and bottle. The mass produced pogs were decorated with lil pictures.

Pogs were utilized in a game in which players stacked up in lil piles. Players threw heavy, thick discs of plastic (about the diameter of the pogs) at them. When the pogs settle after being bashed, whichever ones land face up are kept by the thrower of the slammer. The one with the most pogs wins. Pogs faded out of popularity.

Thanks for being back the sweet memories!....Jan

Jan, great card and thanks for playing along!

Thanks for the background of the POG round tradeable too!  I agree that the storage could be an issue.  I know I read in the other blogs that the current 2.5 inch size was chosen because it would fit in the baseball card sleeves, same as regular ATCs.

I actually think that I might like the older, smaller size so I can add several to a card front.

Thanks for the memories Jan!  My kids had a few POGs.  There was a round plastic tube shaped container to keep them in (like a skinny Pringles with a flip open lid) - though it would not be good for showcasing handmade POGs, nor would I want to "slam" a handmade POG!
