It is time for another Happy Mail Swap!
I loved receiving my Happy Mail card ast month (thanks again April!) but it is nearly time for me to showcase a new one by my desk. How about you…are you ready to make 1 handmade card for one of your AI pals?
Challenge: In this swap you will use products to make a light and airy card that feels as fresh springtime air. Some products I first think of using include acetate or vellum. But other products that conveys light and airy are also welcome as long as you describe what and why you chose it in your gallery description.
To play in this swap please sign onto the list below and you will send your card to the person on the list above your name. I will send my card to the last person signing the list so everyone will receive a card.
Timeline details:

2. Make your card.
3. Take a photo of your card before mailing.

Yes! I want to play!
I missed out on the last swap. I'm glad I saw this one in time. Who doesn't love Happy Mail?
-
I do not have an idea yet for the theme, but I will sign up and hope an idea comes to me soon!
Thanks for organizing another great swap!
-
Cindi so glad you can join the swap this time! Oh Heidi I hardly ever have a plan when committing to a swap-an idea will come or give us a shout here if you need a couple thoughts.
-
Jan, this sounds like so much fun! I have been so busy lately that I haven't made a card in months. Please count me in!
-
I would like to play. Thanks for the motivation. I miss playing with my stuff. So count me in.
-
Yay! LeighAnn and Ann you have been missed! I'm so happy to see you will have time for this swap!
-
Me too!
-
Sign me up! I just thought of a stamp I can use for this.
April
-
Great Shelia and April...so glad both of you are returning!
-
Sign me up!
-
Kathy so glad you are ready so quickly after your trip!
-
I have plans to work on this today. I picked out my stamp and I think I wow what direction I want to go in. Given the theme, it has me thinking of clean and simple.
-
LeighAnn I am so glad you are jumping in! Keep in mind while clean and simple designed cards generally convey a light and airy feel...this challenge is to use a product to convey that feeling. Absolutely terrific to combine the product to enhance the CAS design! So far I have suggested: vellum, acetate and transparent watercolor. Can't wait to see what folks create!
-
Thanks, Jan! I finished up my card and just need to get it in the mail for pickup.
I don't think I have ever used acetate on a card, other than for a shaker card. I can't recall where I saw them but I came across some acetate card bases recently that were really interesting looking. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
-
Congrats Leigh Ann on jumping in so quickly! You are the 1st one done that has posted here. Looking forward to seeing your card!
LOL-I am totally finding this challenge harder for me than anticipated. I totally agree a CAS design would probably be the easiest to support the light and airy feeling. But I continue to add too much and lose the light and airy feel. :tickedoff: Friday is the mailing deadline I must find some more time!
-
Jan, I quickly found myself wanting to add more! I originally had only planned on using 2 layers but I couldn't handle all the white space! Which is weird, I usually like when others do cards like that!
-
The deadline is nearly here and I do not have a card yet. I have some parts that I was thinking of using but it hasn't come together quite yet.
-
I have mine all ready. Just realized I don't have April's address! LOL. So I PM'd her and will get it in the mail tomorrow.
I too have to slap my hand from adding more stuff, hehehe.
-
Sheila, I think I forgot to mention that I got your wonderful card earlier this week. I love the stamp that you used. Sorry, for not replying sooner - deep cleaning craft room, and fixing clutter. :laughhard:
-
I decided to go in a different direction than my original thought. My card is now completed and drying and my envelope is made out. I just need to photograph the card. Light and Airy is one of those themes that will be interesting to see how each person defines it in terms of the product use.
-
Card is done, notes and photo taken for posting once Jan receives it ... Lucky me, P.O. is just up the street so I can pop it in an envelope and get it postmarked by 5pm. (even though Jan gave me till midnight ;), thanks Jan, it took the pressure off a little!)
-
I had a little trouble keeping it light and airy too. I kept auditioning things, but in the end I think I managed to leave it alone just enough. I think I might make another card now that every counter in the kitchen is full of stamping supplies, haha!
Thank you Jan! You got me stamping again. (I put down the crochet and picked up the stamps.) This experience also might be the motivation I need to clean up the craft space! It would be much easier to make a card if I didn't have to worry about tripping over stuff in the process of digging out supplies!
-
Got mine to April in the mail!
Kathy
-
I received my cute and glittery card from April. Thank you, l love it.
-
The Friday the 13th computer gremlin must have eaten my earlier post here today! I know I wrote and saw that I had published it but it is no longer here...oh well.
I too had twists with how I approached this challenge. And for me it got rather time consuming in testing and changing directions more than once. But finally I came up with something I liked. Funny as I was trying to take photos a small breeze kicked up and every one of my first photos had blurry shadows. But I got it the 2nd time around and got to the post office early afternoon.
Thanks every one for making a final dash to complete your cards and get it to the post office. The only one I am not sure about is UtahAnn.
I look forward to seeing them in the gallery after your partner receives your Happy Mail.
-
How ironic Jan, that a breeze blew by to disturb your "airy" cards! LOL! I will post a picture of my card tomorrow.
April
-
My card went out on Thursday and I let my recipient know it was in the mail, but forgot to log in here. Thanks for the gentle reminder.
-
Thanks Ann for letting us know. Good to know all are in the mail and everyone should be receiving Happy Mail this week who haven't already.
April glad you caught the humor of my shadow dilemma!
Looking forward to seeing more postings in the gallery soon.
-
Here is my airy card that I sent Sheila.

I received a most beautiful card from LeighAnn today! She did a great job with the theme, I am looking forward to her sharing the photo here!
-
I just remembered I will be out of town until Friday. Am having a hold placed on my mail to pick up Saturday. So... I can post my pics then and also see if mine has arrived from Jan!
-
Thanks Heidi, glad you liked it!
I used Jan's suggested prompt of using vellum as a starting base for my card. I wanted to do some sort of flower that reminded me of spring, so I knew I had to use this stamp. I love hydrangeas, their so delicate looking and their soft coloring made me think of Jans theme. I kept the coloring simple and added some light ink blending to the card. I had just got this really pretty paper pack from hobby lobby and I thought the pastel colors worked great with the card.

I'm behind on checking out everyone's cards so I'm off to leave some praise!
-
I love seeing the gallery filled with light and airy cards! So far we have: Shelia's pretty card (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2643#top_display_media) features a collage stamped image which she colored with mica paints and some light water coloring. April's fun mouse 'n parachute scene is delightful with it's fun elements of sparkle and the terrific paper piecing. And LeighAnn's card which showcases light and airy in every element. Thanks all for sharing your beautiful work and playing in this challenge!
Kathy enjoy your time with your daughter! I expect your return will be close to when my card arrives.
-
I received my lovely card from Kathy yesterday!
April
-
I got the prettiest card in the mail from Ann! I love the color combo and she used a really interesting paper for the main part of the card, can't wait for y'all to see it! Thank you so much Ann!
-
Happy Mail came today! Thank you Heidi! I love the pretty spring card you sent! It's nice to have some of your watercolor from the class we're both taking. The background is really interesting too, I like it! I'm anxious to hear how you did it.
-
Here is the card (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2648#top_display_media) I sent to Cindi. Details on how I made it light and airy are in the description. I am glad you like it, Cindi, I was a bit nervous about this swap!
-
Heidi, thanks for sharing your wonderful water colored card in the gallery along with the explanation of what you did to create your light and airy feel.
With such broad challenge themes some times folks get real creative and all that is needed is a description of what was done to meet the challenge.
Hope more Happy Mail arrives today!...Jan
-
Had fun doing this challenge and here is my card:

Ann, thanks so much for sharing your card....I love handmade papers too!
Cindi your Happy Mail card arrived today! You had me chuckling as I walked out of the post office. So glad you know I don't live in Timbuktu instead of Fairbanks. Love all the flamigos featured as mail art on the envelope. So very happy to now have a piece of your watercoloring! Please post in the gallery so everyone can enjoy! Many thanks!....Jan
-
Glad you liked your card Jan! I just got a new sign post stamp from Vivalasvegastamps, just because I saw a sample used for mail art. The signs are blank so I filled in with my town, Jan's, and Timbuktu ! FYI, Timbuktu is a real place! It's in Mali, West Africa. Luckily my daughter got to visit when whe was in Mali, in Peace Corps a few years ago. Sadly Peace Corps has had to leave Mali because of Muslim extremists!
Sorry, I digressed!
I'm out of town, hope to post my card Fri or Saturday.
-
Here (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2650#top_display_media) is the Light and Airy card I mailed to Jan.
The light and airy products I used were :
a craft feather
a stamped and die cut feather
transparent watercolors
Wink of Stella shimmer - I felt this was lighter than a heavy glitter
I learned how to make the watercolor sky by watching Steve Mitchell in Lesson 1, Mind of Watercolor, Strathmore Artist Workshop.
This workshop is free just by registering if you're interested.
Thanks for the mail swap Jan! I'm glad I didn't miss out this time around.
-
Cindi-thanks for all the details of your light and airy card! It is such a fun card to look at...thanks again.
-
Hi all, sorry if I held anyone up! I received my card from Jan Saturday and it is beautiful! I will post mine a bit later. Have to make a grocery store run after being out of town for a few days!
-
Kathy hope you enjoyed the graduation trip! And glad the card arrived when you returned and you like it! It is now posted here in the gallery. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2658#top_display_media)

All Light and Airy cards have now been received and posted in the gallery. Here is the link to see them in our gallery album. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/thumbnails.php?album=88) I really enjoy seeing them all together to view the variety of ways folks interpreted the light and airy theme...and what terrific results! I am really enjoying seeing my swapped card next to my computer and hope you are too.
If you haven't had a chance to comment yet the album is a great way to do that. Thanks all for playing and making this a great swap!
