Title: Inktober Fest 2018 - Dangle (10/27-11/4) WINNER ANNOUNCED
Post by: howdyheidi on October 26, 2018, 11:02:21 AM
My challenge is to make a dangle card.  I heard about this EASY fun fold from a lady who came to my craft group once.  I don’t see very many of them on the internet at all!  Maybe you have heard of it, though.

The fold is on the inside of the card.  Cut a piece of cardstock to 1 inch by 11 inches.  Score at 2 3/4, 5 1/2 and 8 1/4.  You apply glue to just the first and last 2 3/4 sections and apply it to the top outsides of your card.

You attach some little stamped images or maybe something else on thread (I used baker’s twine) attached to the dangle fold.  I used a piece of cardstock to cover the baker’s twine on the backside of the dangle fold just to make sure those pieces of twine stayed put, but that is optional.

Here is a website with a video on how to put the card together.
https://simplysimplestamping.com/how-to-dangle-stamped-images-inside-a-card-video-tutorial/

You may decorate the outside and inside however you please, but make sure there is stamping on it, not just a sentiment.

My sample card is in the gallery:

It was fun!  Of course when stamping something you love it is.
I used a balloon card base.  I have a half dozen balloon card fronts made up.  So I used one of those.
I stamped my clouds stamp on inside papers and the strip on top.  Stamped, embossed, colored, and cut out several balloons.  I used smaller ones and ones that were even so I could put back to back.
Used blue cardstock so I didn’t have to ink background, also used blue thread to match background. Made too many balloons so glued to top piece.
Came out so cute,I am keeping it!

Awesome card idea, Sheila!  I love the balloons!  I have to say, I made my dangle card in August and still haven’t given it away either!  Thanks for playing!

I am thinking of using this idea with reg balloons and making a birthday card for one of my many grandkids!

While it isn't the first time it's happened, I'm frustrated trying to upload my dangler to the gallery. It simply refuses to connect the file.

At least I was able to upload it to my FB page.

Not going to sweat it at this point. I'm sure I can figure a way to connect somehow. For now I'll just keep working on challenges.

[Yay! I managed to get it uploaded--I'm not going to tempt fate by trying to link it to the thread. I shared 3 pix]

This was fun, I realized real quick I don't have many stamps small enough with dies, Unless I want flying flowers

Connie, your card is absolutely wonderful!   I love the little butterflies.

I didn’t actually have dies for my little bugs.  It was a little bit hard to line them up and cut them, but it worked out good enough.  Dies would be easier.

Here is my dangle card. I made this Christmas card for my son's girlfriend. She likes cards that do something!

I made a Christmas card for my husband ('cause he's the one I want to meet).  :smitten:

I decided to dangle mistletoe, and a few snowflakes.

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe outside (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=4242#top_display_media)

inside (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=4241#top_display_media)

Did anyone else have trouble with the dangle?  Maybe because I hung the mistletoe in the center crease?  It stuck out pretty far and wanted to peak outside the card when it was closed.  I decided to move the side creases closer to the center so everything would hang closer to the inside crease of the card.

Thanks for the challenge Heidi!  I had fun making this, but I certainly won't be mass producing these!

Thanks for playing! I love the mistletoe dangling!

I didn’t have this issue, but I don’t think it is a problem to make your dangler in closer to the fold even when the dangley things are small like my bugs.  You solved the problem beautifully!

Cindy, The scalloped circle I used for hanging my snowflakes has a 1 1/4 diameter and has a 1/8" space before the edge of the card when the card is closed. That is the largest hanging element I would consider using for this pop-up design.  I tested this size using the center fold to hang my circle and adhered with low tack tape. Closed the card for a final test to see that if my large-size dangle would naturally hang inside the card.

I have some stamping friends with whom I have swapped cards for over 25 years...and we all try to share some of our most complex, new skills or techniques each year.  I do think this design goes pretty fast once the pieces are prepped.  I am thinking I will make 6.

Heidi, Thanks again for all the fun!
Jan

Jan, I’m so glad you like the card fold. I am not a fan of complicated folds, but I really liked the simplicity of this one, and everyone I showed the card too had a big smile on their face when they opened it, so it is a winner in my book!

I drew a random number and it was Cindi!  Congrats! I will have a small rak going out later this week!

Thanks to everyone for being good sports and playing along.  Your dangle cards are all so fun.

 #> . Thank you Heidi!

I had fun making the card ... just because I wasn't ready to mass produce after fighting with my fiddly little dangles doesn't mean I didn't like your challenge!  That's what it's supposed to be right?  A challenge!  I think I was tired by the time I was assembling, and things started to go down hill.  I should have tested with temporary adhesive like Jan did!   This morning I went back in and added another thin, glittered border strip at the top to clean up some of my gluing and repositioning.  I'm happier with it now!

Lol, I agree, it is supposed to be a challenge.  I often find the hardest card to make is the first one, especially for card folds.
