WF16-EFink ---- WINNER ANNOUNCED!!
« on: January 19, 2016, 07:32:53 PM »
Sorry I am late.... It took me awhile to find the link I wanted to give you of where I got this idea from, that way you can read her description along with the pictures since I am not very good at explaining,  :-\
http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs165/1102243212164/archive/1122465234211.html

I am sharing my attempts on this technique, nothing like hers of course.  First off she says to use the mini distress inks, which I will say worked a lot easier than the bigger ones so if you have them in the colors you want to use, use them, but as you see, I have all bright colors in my mini's. I just picked one side to show you on each of these examples but like she says you use whichever side you like that worked out best.

Then the next day I tried a different folder one without an over all panel, didn't care for how that was turning out either.

Then the next day after I thought about it, I went back to the folder I wanted to use for some guy cards I need to mail out the beginning of Feb. and I only used one color for the gears and one color for the background, I didn't have a full all over coverage still like I wanted so I sprayed the actual paper instead of the folder and it all blended well together, so in the end I was happy with my results and it looks more like gears too me now..

One of the last two examples used watercolor paper and the other used just regular cardstock, I liked the looks of the regular cardstock, but my hubby preferred the watercolor.

Will be happy to see how you all do with this one.
I would like to see you make a card from your embossed background.
This will run through midnight Jan.31 and I will have a little drawing of all who participate and will send a little package out.

Ok I tried to save the attachments under what I wrote in each paragraph but that didn't work, so You will have to read under each one it will tell you which try that was, sorry.

Here are links to the two cards I made using the folders:

Please use WF16- EFink when posting to the gallery and come back here to share the link for the drawing.
This can be combined with another challenge

LOL, Connie! Apart from wanting you to not judge yourself by anyone else's work... ;) I'm planning to have fun with your challenge. O0

Just to be sure... For your challenge we have to use EF(s) & ink in our project, but can employ our results as we wish?

This should be interesting.  Course I don't have an mini pad, so I'm thinking something with a bigger pattern might work better.  I really like how the gears came out in your third go.

Thanks for hosting.

Very cool technique!  I haven't seen this one before.  Thank you for showing the results of your three efforts.  I find them encouraging.  I love the backgrounds you used to make your cards.

Daria

ETA:  I just looked back at your other trials, and I think they are all going to make great cards.  The flower image is lovely, and the brighter gears are going to make wonderful background pieces or borders.

I checked the link you posted and can see how the tutorial works.  I also have not seen this before and am willing to give it a try.  I assume that you mean for us to start with the tutorial and technique as posted in that link, but we have a little leeway in making it work if we have to?

Thanks for offering this challenge!

Yes to both of your questions, I would like you to try and do it the way that she says, but if you need to do more go ahead, just let us know what else you had to do to get the results you wanted.
Remember to check out both sides of your paper, you will be amazed at how differently they can turn out

Here is my entry. I had some problems with this too and did about 4 backgrounds before I got one I liked. I think spritzing the watercolor paper a little helps. I liked the watercolor paper better than regular cs. Thanks for the fun challenge.

Yes I think it is something that takes a few tries before you get the results you want, yours turned out great.

Well I tried this several times (5 times) yesterday and didn't come up with any usable backgrounds.  I don't think this is going to work for me at all.  You should have seen my fingers when I was done and had nothing usable to show for it.......
You know it's been a good day when I haven't released the flying monkeys.......

I combined this with Negativity at its best.
Ribbon Valentine's

I gave this a few goes before I was happy with the results.  For my first try I used Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry (the one on the left).  I used a Spellbinder embossing folder.    The Spun Sugar didn't really show up.  So for the second try, I used Picked Raspberry and Cracked Pistachio (the one on the right). The second picture is the other side.  Then I die cut the heart, but it smooshed out the embossing. I tried to re-emboss it but didn't line it up right.  So I messed that up. I gave it a third try, cutting the heart first.  But Dashiell was in my lap then, and I forgot to close the folder before adding the paper to get ink on both sides.  So I did a fourth one. And for that one, I spritzed the paper before embossing.  I wasn't thrilled with how it came out because the colors bled together a bit.  To smooth out the splotchiness, I went back over it with my water brush and more DI. Dashiell was also in my lap while I was doing that.  The third picture is it before I added more DI.

Here is my background
http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2403#top_display_media

And my project
http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2404#top_display_media

I also did not really get the tutorial to work, as written. I tried embossing folders from different companies thinking that might be the issues, but in the end, the ink did not transfer very well to either side.  What I decided to do was use the side where the background was inked, and the raised design had nearly no ink on it, and just add the ink to the raised portion. I then sprayed it with quite a bit of water to try to mimic the look in the tutorial.  I think it does look similar, but I maybe used too much water overall.

I have a couple other backgrounds, but I am not sure if I will use them or not.

It was fun to play around with this technique and really messy!  I have a lot of embossing folders drying on the counter!  Thank you for hosting!

thanks for trying Heidi and I like the results of what you did do, Yes I did make a big mess while doing mine too, especially when I added a bit too much water to the embossing folder and then put them together
