Thanks to all who shared their thoughts on the discussion thread for this swap! If you have questions on the details posted here please don’t hesitate to ask.
For the purpose of this challenge “ diecuts” will refer to paper shapes and words cut with dies, punches or electronic equipment that achieve a similar result.
Challenge details:
1. Prepare and send to your assigned player a packet of 10 diecuts including at least 4 different designs. This allows players to cut multiples with a die. All diecuts will be cut from white cardstock. The dies will be selected to work as embellishments on A2 sized winter/holiday themed cards. I ask that players do not use the basic nested circle, square and rectangle shapes since most players already have access to those. The diecuts do not necessarily need to be a Holiday/Christmas theme but the card will be. So if you still have candy corn or pumpkin dies on your desk they will not be appropriate for this swap but banners, labels, sentiments, border shapes will all be possibilities in addition to specific holiday shapes.
2. Once you receive your diecuts you will make one winter/holiday card and post in the gallery. The card's main image will be rubber stamped and at least 1 diecut will be used to enhance the card. The requirement is to personalize the diecut in some manner such as adding color, texture, sparkle or however your creative talents move you.
3. Option-In this swap you have the choice to make a 2nd diecut packet and will be assigned a 2nd player to send it to. Your packets may be identical. You will receive 2 different packets mailed to you from 2 players. An additional card will not be required for those players receiving a 2nd packet.
When you sign-up on this thread please tell me if you want to make 1 packet or 2.

Okay, I will try this with one packet, please.
Question, are we limited to only 10 die cuts, if they fit in a regular envelope? I am not sure what I am going to pick, but if they are smaller, I might want to include more to make up for the size?
-
I'm in! I would like to try with two packets. Since I'm cutting, I may as well cut bunches, LOL
-
Great Heidi glad you can play. 10 diecuts are required for the swap....what is done above and beyond is up to each player. Thanks for asking!
Kathy-so glad you are back in the crafty groove!
-
Count me in for one please!
I thought of another question, if we want to do some with watercolor paper, would that be okay or is it best to just stick to white cardstock?
Thanks Jan for organizing a fun swap!
-
Thanks LeighAnn for the question. For this first diecut swap I think we should keep it as simple as possible...white cardstock only please.
-
I will sign up for one also! Sounds fun!
April ;D
-
Please sign me up for 2 packets! This will be fun!
-
Thank you Jan! I'm working on some more diecutting today:)
-
Ok, maayyybeee I was just procrastinating on cleaning house ... but I had fun looking through dies and prepping my swaps! I am ready!
-
Sign me up for two, please. I also put off cleaning yesterday and got two bunches of die cuts ready to send out. LOL!
-
Wow...you ladies are already prepped...good for you! I have decided to re-organize my winter specific dies in 1 location so you are ahead of me.
-
Ooo Oooo... I just cut my first set and had an epiphany! Since I have a Silhouette, I can cut all mine and then cut around them so I can send the cut out and the negative! I think! LOL
-
Sign me up.
And I have a question, I've got several of the smaller dies that are of various critters (bunnies, cardinals, deer, ect.) which will work on a winter/holiday card but are not winter/holiday specific, are they ok for the swap?
-
I forgot to say, sign me up for 2.
-
So glad you are joining in this swap Sarah! Yes, dies that would look appropriate for winter cards are great. Your animals sound like they would be a fun addition.
-
Thank you for the reminder, yes I want to sign up. Only one packet please.
-
Jan, I'm sure I already signed up, but I can't find it here or on the discussion thread so here I am again. I'd like to participate.
Here's the question I asked somewhere: Is it OK to use frame dies and A2 size dies that would cover the entire front of the card with the stamped image showing through the numerous openings; for example, Holiday Frame (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/99994054202092466/) or Modern Morocco Background (http://www.ellenhutson.com/my-favorite-things-die-namics-modern-morocco/)?
Daria
ETA: I just checked my list of posts, and I didn't sign up. I must not have clicked the right button to post. I'm glad I came back to check things out.
-
Oh sorry Daria, I have asked for embellishment diecuts meaning no frames or backgrounds since my past experience is that the small die cuts travel better and in this first swap I wanted to keep things as simple as possible. April also offered a great background too which I also said no too...so perhaps that may be a idea for another swap. In the meantime I sure hope my swap description leaves you with other possible dies to use!!
Glad you are playing!...Jan
-
No problem, Jan.
Daria
-
Thanks each one of you for giving your input into this swap and signing on. The mailing assignments are now added at the end of the first post.
Can't wait to see what we create!

You know after I had my envelopes stuffed I looked at those uninspiring white cardstock die cuts and thought geez they look weird and I don't know what I would do with those. Then I cut some extra and used my embossing powders and used 3 of them to make a card........ok they can be made inspiring but one needs to think outside the box. I realized that I very seldom ever just cut plain white cardstock anything. I use heavier paper that can be worked. So anyway thank you for this swap because it is turning out to be a big ole challenge for me in thinking further out of the box then I already do......
-
LOL Sadie-your recent Halloween cards and ATC looked nothing short of out-of-box wonderfully creative so I am sure you are up to this challenge! Glad to hear you reached for the embossing powder...that can sometimes add texture as well as color and sparkle.
Sadly I don't think about reaching for a die very often so I hope this challenge will provide some inspiration to think about them!
Bring on the happy mail :smitten:
...Jan
-
Thanks so much for organizing, I am sure it was a bit more difficult than usual since some people were doing 2 packages and some 1.
-
My die cuts went in the mail today. Lovepug2 and Craft Nerd you have I hope happy mail on the way.......
-
I'm so excited for this swap! I often think I don't use diecuts enough on my cards so this will be good to break that habit.
Sadie, lol I was thinking the same thing. It's pretty rare if I diecut something with just white cardstock, unless its a basic shape or a snowflake. I'm excited to see what you come up with!
Mine is going out tomorrow. I've had them ready to go but it's been chaotic today and I missed the mail man.
-
I will be sending mine out today.
April
-
Me too April...I took mine to the post office!
Sadie, your Happy Mail Packet is on its way to you!
I have already experienced one great outcome...I sorted all my winter/Christmas dies from the rest of my collection and found two I had totally forgotten about since I bought them at the end of season last year. Without this challenge I would not ever have given the newest, unused dies a thought...thanks everyone for playing!
-
Cindi's pack will go out tomorrow. I still don't have Utah Ann's address but I'm sure she will get it to me.
-
Mine are cut and packaged up. Cindi, the die-cuts and your RAK go out tomorrow.
I agree with Sadie. Plain white die cuts look a bit weird. I usually die-cut patterned paper, glitter paper, or an unused background I've made. It will be challenging to put these to work for us.
I had fun cutting these out. Once I had started, I had a hard time stopping. Cracking my C Plate helped.
Daria
-
Cracking my C Plate helped.
Bummer Daria!
I found the same thing, cutting was fun ... now what to do with them! This will be a good exercise!
Envies went out to Jan and Sadie yesterday.
Congrats on getting your dies organized Jan!
-
Yes, sorry Daria, breaking a plate is indeed a show stopper. I'm afraid the addiction of making diecuts hit my neighborhood too.
My "Craft Stamper" magazine arrived yesterday and as I was glancing through it I came across some words of inspiration from Anna-Karin Evaldsson as she opened
a technique article for white glossy paper. She wrote: "I love paper, nothing holds as much potential as a sheet of white paper. It could be used for
writing a letter, a book, notes and of course for art. You can transform a piece of piece of white paper into almost anything with the help of stamps and ink."
WoW Anything? I wonder what Artsy Inkers will create...wonder what tools they will dig out and what colorants they will use? Hang-on we will know by Sunday, Nov. 29th.
...Jan
-
I got my 2 envelops finished today so they will go postal to Kathy & Heidi tomorrow. I went a little overboard too.
Am I the only one who doesn't think the plain white die cuts don't look weird? (sorry about the double negative). I've been cutting my shapes out of plain white more and more lately and just coloring them my self. I think that give them a bit more depth than cutting from colored cardstock.
-
I need to get a move on to get my envelope ready!
-
My dies are on the way! Can't wait to see what all of do with them!
April ;D
-
Kathy's envelope is ready to go and will go out in the mailbox in the morning.
-
Stamp Willy's envelope will be on the way this afternoon (Monday). More is better than not enough.
-
Ooh, I got happy mail today! Diecuts from Sadie! She outdid herself and sent so many fun ones to work with. Thank you Sadie!! :smitten:
-

I agree with that, Sarah. Even die-cuts made with colored cardstock or patterned paper look good if they've been inked up a bit.
Daria
-
According to my count all the diecuts are in the mail as of today...yay a whole day early!
AND they are starting to arrive...OH what fun! LeighAnn how fun to see a peek into Sadie tool's collection!....sounds like she made good use of the tools last week!
Cindi you must have put my envelope on a direct flight...it arrived today! This is the best kind of mail day! I always love it when other stampers also stamp the envie before putting it in the mail...and what a great pocket envie to hold the wonderful diecuts. WoW I am going to have a hard time deciding what card to make first!
Thanks so-o much! :smitten:...Jan
-
I got happy mail from both Sadie and LeighAnn today. So many goodies. I don't know where to start.
-
You're welcome Jan!
In this case, I was early, so I had time to stamp the envie! It doesn't usually happen that way!
I had a happy mail day too!
I got die cuts from Kathy in a pretty card, and she cut them so I also got the negative space. Thanks Kathy, great idea! I'm thinking they could be used as stencils ...
And ... I got die cuts from Daria, also in a pretty card and carefully separated in waxed paper. They are super fine, detailed dies and she shared the manufacturer info, which is nice because I just might NEED these!
I was the lucky winner of the Inktoberfest 2nd chance challenge so Daria also sent my RAK, a super cute, large Christmas cling stamp!
Thank you Kathy and Daria! You made my day!
-
I got my die cuts from Iring? yesterday and was trying to make stuff last night and the mojo was not flowing. I am going to try again tonight.
Sorry about the confusion.......
-
Mine arrived today along with a lovely fall card. Thank you, April. I already have some ideas.
Daria
-
Can't wait to see what you make, Daria!
April
-
I got Utah Ann's address and put her envelope in the mail yesterday.
-
I got more happy mail yesterday. Far North's nicely done up die cuts arrived. I set them aside because I wanted to finish up the cards from Iring's die cut delivery.
Now if we got two envelopes does that mean we are required to do at least one card from each envelope? This is not a problem for me at all since I am working on the 4th card from the first bunch of die cuts......I have made some very different looking cards, different from each other, hopefully not "different" in a bad way....LOL
My children will be so surprised that I made Christmas cards this year. I haven't done Christmas cards for years........I do tags instead. This year it's Christmas cards......LOL
-
I received my die cut swap envelope today from Sarah! Thanks so much! She did a great job of organizing them too. I have an idea for a card, just need some time to make it.
-
Your welcome, Heidi.
-
It is so much fun to hear of the arrivals of the die cuts! Sadie will you please open a folder in the gallery for our work with the dies?...thanks! As for the creative requirement for this challenge... it is the same for everyone-creatively make at least one die cut your own and use it in a card. Since it sounds like you have already done that you may want to change to making tags or anything else you choose. Or use them as you work on other projects and just post in the gallery and leave a link here.
-
I had time last night to work on some cards. I have one I stRted but not sure what I want to do next with it and one finished. Sadie sent so many fun ones to use!
I used 3 diecuts from Sadie for my card. i did something I haven't done in a long time, I covered them in loose glitter.

Great card, LeighAnn, which size set of Inktense pencils do you have. That blue does not look familiar, but I only have the set of 12.
-
LeighAnn, your card is wonderful! I got my dies from Ann today. Can't wait to work on my card tomorrow!
April ;D
-
Heidi, I only have the set of 12. I used both of the blues in the set. The one that's the darkest blue I used a really light hand with. Do you know if you can purchase them individually? I would like to add a few more colors to my set. I would like a bigger set but they're pricey!

Thank you. It is lovely that you got such a nice result using a light hand!
Yes, you can buy them individually, I was looking at them at Dick Blick. The bigger sets seem to also contain the set of 12 we already have. I have been thinking about which other colors I would want.
I just printed out the color sheet to take a closer look: http://www.thethreadstudio.com/catalogue/colour/inktense/colourchart.pdf

My envelope arrive yesterday from SWLady. I was at a scrapbook week end, and what a lovely surprise when I got home. Will take time today to play with what I received.
Thanks so much.

Here is my entry. Thanks for the fun challenge! ;D

Thanks for sharing the color chart, Heidi. I started looking at dick blick and picked out around 12 colors. The chart looks very helpful because some of the colors look much more different than what you see on that site.
I worked on some more yesterday but need to photograph them still.
I'm off to check out April and Sadies cards!
-
Oh my gosh Sadie! You know you will be expected to make Christmas cards every year now, right?
Your cards are wonderful!
April, I love the way you used your die cuts. The tree sparkles!
It has been so much fun to see how my dies were used! And, I feel like such a slug because I really haven't used them! Now I am so inspired!
Can't wait to see more cards! Wonderful idea for a swap Jan!
-
It looks to me like all the die cut packets have now been received but if anyone is still waiting please send me a PM. Thank you Sadie for opening a folder in the gallery for the Die Cut Swap...so we all can enjoy finding inspiration long after this month. Please label the title and tag with the words Die Cut Swap.
Have you seen the gallery recently? It is beaming with inspiration! Sadie has posted several cards with many of the die cuts she received and as well LeighAnn and April have shared how they colored their die cuts and used them...Many thanks for sharing! Looking forward to seeing more!

-
I have't heard if Kathy received my envelope yet. Maybe I missed her note, but hopefully it is there or nearly there!
-
I did receive the envelope Heidi! Thanks, I love them all! I received my envelope from CraftNerd also. I posted it in the wrong forum, hehehe.
I too am being a slug. Haven't decided what to do with mine yet, but I will work on them this week!
-
Oh good, Kathy!
Jan, in the OP you said we need to make a card. Just double checking before I work on my project more if it must be a card or if it could be a tag. No problem either way, just want to make sure I am doing the right thing.
TIA.
-
Yes, Heidi I would still like cards to be made. Not all card-makers make tags therefore I would like players for this swap to show how they would use the die cuts on a card. I hope this will provide the maximum inspiration for the person who provided the die cuts.
-
Thanks, I will work on a card for sure.
-
Here is a Christmas card I made usings several of the die cuts I received. I have one other ornament finished, but decided to save it for another project. There is still plenty in the envelope for me to work with as well.
http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=2166&message_id=34468ceffa288ce5e98c7f5a1144cc26&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock

I just posted my card (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=2170&message_id=4d5a309b24c386309c8961dc9f609f2f&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock). I love this die-cut. I actually have the die, but I've never used it. I bought it after using one at a workshop a year or two ago. Now that I have used the die-cut that April sent, I know I'll use my die a lot. Thank you, April!
I've been busy with cards and life so I haven't checked out all the cards posted to this thread yet. Hopefully, I'll be able to do that tomorrow.
Thank you, Jan, for the swap/challenge.

I made two cards today with the diecuts that I received from Sadie. I had a moment of panic though, I couldn't find my die cuts! I typically only get crafting done while my boys are asleep or napping and so sometimes I have to pack up my stuff quickly to keep my littlest from getting into everything. It took me almost 30 minutes to find them, I had stashed them in a watercolor paper pad ::)
Sorry for the bad lighting, it's been rainy and gloomy here today- here are 2 I finished :)

Great cards, Heidi and Daria!!
-
Heidi, Daria and LeighAnn-fantastic success with your diecuts! Your gallery posts are wonderful! Thank you for your creative thoughts in coloring the white die cuts. Continue to use your die cuts and post here as you wish.
-
This morning I am posting cards I made with die cuts from Cindi. Here is a link to my gallery post. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2178#top_display_media)
I used my new Hero Arts layer tree set as the focal image. I like it better than my first version but this morning Art Impression's video was on water coloring a front door surronded by a snowy scene....and I learned some new things about water coloring snow. Now I have some new ideas to try. If any one is interestrf in AI's water coloring videos please see Heidi's thread on the Technique Board.
Here is my card with a 2nd die cut-a stocking from Cindi. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2180#top_display_media)
Heidi, earlier I posted about wanting players to create a card for this challenge. But please know after 1 card you are welcome to use the die cuts as you wish and link to this thread at any time. Your new posting of your ornament tag in the gallery is wonderful!

I have been thinking about this challenge and procrastinating about starting it. But today was the day. I really liked how it turned out and had the perfect paper , the perfect stamp and the perfect diet cut and it all came together. I really like this card. I like how my die cut came out with 2 colors of embossing powder.
Thanks for the challenge.
Here is my card: http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=2189&message_id=bd61ade5de502954ed7473cfbb8d3c60&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock
-
Ann, so glad your card making with the die cut came together you! Thank you for sharing the use double color embossing!
-
I've got one card finished, but I haven't had a chance to take a pic yet. It uses a die from LeighAnn. And I have a card in the works with two dies from Sadie but it isn't finished yet.
I did use a die from LeighAnn on my ATC for my swap. Here it is. November ATC swap (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=2193&message_id=503d9164b65507431e7e56d8287520cc&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
I need to go check out the gallery.
-
Wow, what luck to receive a die cut proportioned to wonderfully fit into your Christmas tree scene! Great ATC!
Looking forward to seeing your cards too!...thanks your playing.

I finally got my card photoed and uploaded. I'm hoping to get another one done tomorrow.

I have so much more I want to do with all the fabulous dies cuts I received.
-
Thanks Sarah for sharing your card! I love how you created texture on you die cut coffee cup!
Hope we get to see more of your die cuts. Thanks for playing!
-
My Santa card (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2201#top_display_media) is ready!
I really enjoyed this challenge and swap, Jan! Thank you!
And thanks to SWLady and djc for the die cuts. This card uses holly dies from SWLady. I hope to make a card using one of Daria's die cuts real soon.
I am sorely lacking finished Christmas cards this year, so I'm super happy to have this one finished! I can see myself playing with dies more after all of the inspiration here.
-
Here is my Christmas card with my die cuts. I used die cuts from both Heidi and Craft Nerd on the card. I will be making more soon!

Great cards posted here! Very inspirational on how to use the die cuts. I worked on one card today and I have a good idea for some of the other die cuts in the envelope. Maybe I will even be able to use them all. We will see. It is dark now so I hope to take photos in the sunlight tomorrow.
-
Wow Cindi and Kathy you ended our swap with some additional great inspiration for using die cuts!
Thanks all for playing! ...Jan

One more card!

I do have some more die cuts to use, but I have used the bulk of them.
-
Heidi terrific color of pine branches and cones!...so pretty!!! Fantastic card.
I too continue to play with some die cuts and add in the mix of fresh Christmas colors. I selected a tough color scheme for myself since I have a hard time differentiating between blue and green colors. But I had lots of fun! Here is my gallery post. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=2207#top_display_media)
This Fresh Color challenge is open through next Sunday.
Thanks for looking!...Jan

I did one more card with my die cuts. Love this one!
