Technique Class
« on: June 09, 2019, 05:30:15 AM »

Justine Hovey- card-maker and You-tube presenter, also teacher by day has just open up a new online class on techniques.
Check out the details: http://bit.ly/2XnY0En

A long time ago I was a part of a challenge group of about 30 people who swapped a sample of a card making technique and written instructions which was made into a simple booklet.  I used that booklet many times over the years.  I am excited that Justine will be sharing her techniques over a period of time so folks can have time to play with each technique instead many arriving at one time. I have just signed-up.

I watched the video and the first thing I thought about was the Technique ATC Swap we did.  I had to use a tiny font to get the directions to fit on the back of the ATC card, and one participant attached a folded up paper with the directions.  lol.  Justine's directions for the Embossing Techniques all look so neat and normal.

I have enjoyed Justine's videos many times so I'm sure this is going to be a terrific class.  When I first started stamping, I printed out so many techniques and saved them in binders.  Since I didn't know which ones worked best, I ended up with several different pages for each technique.  My best resource is my gallery since I usually described the technique I was using.  That has helped me immensely since I often forget what worked and what didn't work.  I've saved challenges too with helpful suggestions from participants.

I like the way Justine is setting up her binder.  It seems more useable than all the stuff I've saved over the years and seldom look at anymore.

Thank you for the link.  I'm thinking about it.

Daria

ETA:  Well, that didn't take long.  I signed up.  If I do it, great.  If I don't, it's worth a donation.

I'm interested, even though I'm late ...
What do you think so far?

I think it would be fun to do together with other Artsy Inkers.

Should I hit the "sign up" button?

Daria, I was in a technique tag swap. On 2peas?  I love those tags!  I put them on a binder ring.  I forget to look at them though.  I think I need to hang them at eye level, ha!

I often look at things I've made and wonder, how did I do that?

Daria, I love that you shared that you are giving thought to adding additional info to your Technique notebook!....it certainly is getting my mind rolling!

Over the years I have worked on a notebook of colorant swatches (the inks, paints, markers etc).  And included details for using the product.

For our technique notebook I am currently considering adding some additional info including variations on the main technique and a few favorite photos (perhaps resized to ATC size).

I am beginning to think about how to make the notebook work best for me including:

I like my color swatches made with 1 stamp.  But I plan on making my technique samples with stamps and inks that work best for the technique.

Currently, I have am having issues of forgetting the names of things like techniques for short periods of time but enough that it drives me crazy (LOL).  So I am thinking about adding a set of alpha dividers to the notebook to arrange the technique topics. But I will wait for a few more classes to see Justine's plan.

Are you thinking of any other ways to make the notebook work best for you?  Thanks Daria for bringing up this topic!
...Jan

Here is another recent video of Justine's about here card making process.

I know she loves Catherine Pooler inks, and I have been resisting ...

Does anyone have them?  What do you think?  I'm liking the bright, vibrant colors and they seem to stamp solid images really well.  Do I need any?

So far for the technique class ... I have printed the technique ATCs and put them in a binder.  Have yet to make any samples of the techniques, but I hope to get to it eventually.  I already have another notebook started with ink swatches in coin size pockets so I don't think I will combine swatches and techniques ... for one thing, my current notebook is not big enough.

I haven't heard of any of those inks. I didn't end up taking the technique class, just way too busy right now
