Here is what you need to do for my challenge. Please use the key word PTINF14 when uploading your project.
Here are the pictures and instructions on how to make the background that I would like for you to use on your project
http://stampwillydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/06/technique-tuesday-stamping-with-paper.html#comment-form
I used a brayer but you can also use your fingers to rub over the paper towel and card stock and it works well. Also, if you don't have a large ink pad you can use a smaller piece of paper towel and use a smaller piece on your project. You DO NOT have to do the embossing either unless you want to.
1. do this technique and use it somewhere on your project (card, tag, etc.)
2. use at least one stamped image, not just a saying
3. use at least 2 embellishments
4. link your project to this post as well as the event gallery ( use PINF14 for the key word )
You may combine this with any other Inktober Fest challenge and/or the Christmas All Year challenge. I will be giving an RAK to a randomly chosen winner. Have fun!

What an easy technique! Now I am anxious to go look at my paper towels and see what pattern they have on them, lol.
Thanks so much for hosting!
-
;D ;D I had to get up and go look at my paper towels too! It will be fun to see what comes out of this technique! Thanks for the challenge!
-
Well, we are all thinking the same thing. That is one cool texture you have on that paper towel! This is going to be fun . . . and very inky!
Thanks for the challenge.

Ooh, love this one! Sounds like fun.
I just came across some paper towels at the grocery store the other day that had leaves and pumpkins embedded in the towel. I didn't buy them though, they were 3.50 a roll and I'm cheap!
Thanks for hosting, April!
-
I had to go and look at my paper towels too and they seem to have diamond shapes on them. Thank you for hosting this challenge Stampwilly.
-
Me too, I need to check the pattern on my paper towels. Great technique.
-
Your projects should be fun to see with all those patterns! Can't wait!

I did have some trouble with the technique. When I used the brayer over the paper towel and ink pad, too much ink got into the pattern of the paper towel and the pattern didn't show up at all, even with multiple tries. So instead, I swiped ink over the paper towel. this way, I could control the amount of ink more easily and I was able to use three different ink pads together (I only have one multi color inkpad).
Still the pattern was subtle, but it made a great background for my snowman. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=591&message_id=7f3ee45a2cddb7acae5d9b4f02f4545b&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
This was a fun challenge, thank you.
PS, my paper towels are from Costco, so they are Kirkland brand.
-
Well I made a card from the paper towel background I stamped using distress ink. Of course this is something I will need to try again sometime this week because once was not enough. Thank you for the fun challenge.

Ok, Sadie has been partying a bit too hard, she's starting to make up words.:uglystupid2: In her project description she talks about using her kajinker. Sounds like something out of a Dr. Seuss book, if you ask me. :D
-
Nope, not made up that is what it says on the side, KaJinker! It's one of those things that retail uses to attach tags but it used smaller shorter ones that go through the flowers and hold them onto paper....LOL
Notice pictures at bottom of post....KaJinker.....LOL Also notice the pink paper tagger by Around the Block......I mentioned I have some older tools....LOL
-
I googled it after teasing in my post. I had just never heard of it before.
-
lol
-
Thanks for the pictures, Sadie! What a funny name!
Sadie your card is so pretty. I love the soft colors. Heidi, I got an error when I clicked on the link to your snowman and could not see your card. I will try to find it in the gallery.

I am not having good luck with this challenge. My paper towels have cool shapes on them, but my only stamp pad with different colors is kind of small and I think that's causing my issues. I will keep trying though!
-
SWLady - I think Sadie used a couple of different distress ink pads instead of a single multi-colored pad.
-
??? I struggled with this tonight! I only have one of Dyan Reavely's blank large ink pads ... so I filled it with spray ink, but I don't know ... the paper towel soaks up a lot of ink, and then when I try again, it's as if there is no ink! And my paper towels are very absorbant, but not very decorative!
I also experimented with my normal sized Kaleidacolor pads (I think they are on the dry side) and I tried my paper napkins, as they have a shell border.
Hmmm, maybe something will look usable in the morning! I'll see what I can do. Definitely a challenge!

Yes, I had a similar problem. I applied three different colors of ink pad to the paper towel by swiping it on top of the paper towel. It worked much better for me not only to get multi color, but also because then the paper towel didn't absorb too much ink in the part that was designed.

A long time ago (I believe pre-Cuttlebug days) we had a 2pea event challenge in which we had to adhere some paper towel for dimension and texture to our card. I recall splitting the paper towel and using the inside top layer which is raised embossed and inking it. We achieved a lot of good results. I wonder if 1 layer would be more effective here.
Heidi did you brayer the ink onto the paper towel to control how much was going on?

Interesting thought about just using one ply, that might work!
And, yes, I did try stampwilly's technique as presented several times with several different pressures. The paper towel just soaked the ink into the little indentations no matter what when I did it that way and therefore it did not transfer the pattern. It may vary from brand to brand though.
-
I am sorry to hear ya'll are having problems. I think my paper towels were the Sparkle brand. Bounty and Viva may absorb too much. You may certainly try other ways to get this to work! :-\ My paper towel was folded about 4 times. Maybe brayering over the towel with ink will be better. Thanks for trying everyone!

I am figuring out that if I roll over the paper towel a few times that it flattens the design and kinda changes it…that could be a good or bad thing I guess depending on your paper towel.
Right now I am rethinking my paper towel stamping I did. The largest ink pad I have is 3"x 2" and then the distress ones are 2x2 so originally I was thinking I had to make a project with that size in mind, but after seeing Sadie's project then I'm going back to the drawing board and ink up more of my paper towel--yeah!! :D
-
Well, here's the best I could do! My paper towels are Viva, and they absorbed a lot of ink, but I did get some texture out of them. I attached a photo of my pt printed paper, trimmed down to ATC size.
Here is the fall tag (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=621#top_display_media) I made.
At least I got a bonus tag from my spray ink mess! I went through quite a few paper towels last night! Thanks for the challenge Stampwilly. I tried something new that I would never have thought to do!
-
I like your tag and your background is really pretty!
-
Cindi, your background turned out very pretty. Thanks for trying my challenge!

SWLady - I think Sadie used a couple of different distress ink pads instead of a single multi-colored pad.
Actually I squished the distress ink into my craft mat, sprayed water onto the ink, sprayed water onto the paper towel, then put the paper towel into the ink, then sprayed more water on the inked paper towel, sprayed water on the paper, and then more water onto the inked paper towel before I could get it to stamp. The paper towel was soaking wet when I was done but I got a stamp out of it. My brand was bounty and it soaked up a whole bunch of ink and water before it would stamp. I think the trick is to get it wet enough that there is moisture to stamp with, cause you know paper towels are made to soak up moisture not put it down.....LOL
-
I have a completed card for this. I did experiment with a couple different inks. I got the better results from my brilliance ink pads. I think the juicier the pad might be better?
I also couldn't find my brayer so I used my sons playdoh dough roller ;D.
Sadie, I'm gonna try what you did with the distress inks.
My paper towel I used was Kroger(local grocery store) brand.
I have these napkins with flowers embossed in them that I really want to work!
I will get my card uploaded in a bit.

I LOVE to read about everyone's attempts to stamp with paper towel..."true creatives at work" :smitten:
For my 5 minutes of inky playtime I used Brawny towels that are perforated into smaller sections to use as needed. I made a pad of 6 stacked A2 sized towels. Brayered over the stack onto my Ranger Big and Juicy inkpad. Then laid stack on moistened cardstock and brayered. I was very pleased with my 1st result. With the excess ink on the paper towel I put it directly on another piece of A2 cardstock (not wet).

(Continue from previous post)
So much ink was in my paper towel I then inked another entire sheet of cardstock. The towel flipped around and folded on itself at times adding dimensional fold markings on my 1st layer of my soon to be masterboard. I also left the paper towel dry so I can use it in my future cards.
Thanks for the fun inky playtime April!...Jan

Cindi - I really like how your pt stamped paper came out and your tag is lovely.
Jan - you got some really great results with you pt. I love those colors.
-
I finished this challenge and must sayit twas NOT easy!
Because I combined this challenge with 2 others-Mixed Media and Starting Point!
Thanks April for hosting!

I finally got my card uploaded! I tried last night but it kept rejecting the file for some reason.
This was a fun technique! I love seeing all of the results. I'm going to be checking out the paper towel patterns now! I still want to try it with a napkin that I have that has roses imprinted on it.
I tried a few different inks. I don't have any large ink pads but I found that the brilliance one worked the best.
Thanks, April! This was a fun challenge :)

Since I am not going to have any more time, I decided to post my paper towel stamped background. I have an ink pad with all these colors and laid the paper towel down to try and match it up. Didn't do very well, but I did get good texture. I did use my brayer and the paper towel soaked up a lot of ink. I know this doesn't count for the challenge, but just wanted to show the texture I got with this technique.
It feels waxy, did anyone else get this feel on their background?
Now I don't know what to do with the background... any ideas? Maybe a fun birthday card?

I do think it is a great background and you got GREAT texture! What brand paper towels do you have?
I agree a birthday card would be a fun one for this.
I wonder if the brand of paper towel along with brand of ink contributed to the waxy texture. I did not get anything like that.

The hardest part of this challenge for me april, was figuring out the embellishments! lol! I think that alone took me 2 days to figure out. I'm not very good at adding embellishments…that is a real challenge for me. I never know what will look good or distract/add to the piece so I guess in the end, I avoid them. :-\ But I like the embellishments I ended up using here and I want to learn how to not avoid them. Thank you April for this challenge!

I don't think my BG felt waxy from my printing.
I think a birthday card or maybe a bright "thinking of you" type of card too. Looks kinda like a crayon rub also!
-
Melissa, your card is lovely! I also love the embellishments you chose. Thanks for doing my challenge!

Congrats Melissa!
Thanks for hosting. I think all of us got great results in the end. And the process was fun. It shows what a great group we are!
-
Yeah!! Thank you! and thank you April for hosting a fun, creative challenge! I really did enjoy it. I still have my paper towels and may try to do something with them now---especially after seeing Sarah's tags using paper towel.
-
Congrats, Melissa.
And thanks April for a cool challenge.
I've already used my paper towels on a second masterboard.
-
Congrats, Melissa &...
Ooh, ooh! I just did a successful towel pattern transfer! I double-checked April's required info & have an idea what I'll do--including those pesky embellishments! :D
What fun!
