Title: WF15 Impressions Challenge (2/21-3/1)----WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Post by: yellowcherrios on February 20, 2015, 09:26:01 AM
My challenge is all about impressions.  There is a photo linked below; click the photo to enlarge it

Use keyword: WF15Impressions when uploading the project to the gallery.

The challenge is to include these 3 impressions on a project:

1. Make a new project (ATC, card, bookmark, etc) that is your impression of the photo below.  What impressions does the photo have on you?  Does it inspire you through it’s color combination?  Does it remind you of a stamp or patterned paper you have?  etc.

2. Include an impression that is embossed (raised or recessed, either one/both): use at least one dry embossing somewhere on the project—this can be done with embossing folders, by hand with an embossing stylus or another tool, or even with a rubber stamp if you’d like (though if using a stamp, you still will need to stamp a stamp with ink for requirement #3).  What I am looking for is an impression left in the paper itself, thus heat embossing will not qualify for the embossed portion of the challenge, but may be used elsewhere in the project.

3. Use stamping (other than sentiment) with ink somewhere on your project, as this is the final impression of the challenge.

Leave a comment and a link to your project in this thread. Feel free to ask any questions here on this thread as well.  You may combine my challenge with any of the other challenges that allow combining.

There will be an RAK for this challenge chosen randomly from the qualified entries.

Have fun!!   #>

What a beautiful photo to work with for this challenge.  Except the train should have Alaska RR on the side.  I actually know a location about 100 miles from me where that photo could have been taken.
I am a little confused with the details of the challenge but I think some sleep will help so I will reread in the morning before I ask any questions.  Thanks for the fun challenge Melissa.

That's funny Jan, I was thinking it looks like a dinner train we took in Colorado!  We rode it in July, though this winter scene is beautiful.
Super challenge.

Jan that is so cool that you may know where this is!

Cindi I too thought of a diner car at one point.   What train was it?  I took the Silverton/Durango train when I was a teenager....really pretty scenery.

Melissa, the train we rode was the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The Loop takes you between Georgetown and Silver Plume, CO.  The train stops on a high bridge over Clear Creek while they serve dinner.

Here is my entry. The picture reminded me of the train ride we took in Caines, Australia in the rain forest. We rode over very high bridges and saw beautiful waterfalls. I remembered I had this train stamp and have never used it! I am always in need of male cards so I made my card for a male. The embossed piece at the bottom was made by inking up my embossing folder with black ink, using burgundy card stock and running it through my machine. It kind of has a leathery look. Thanks for a fun challenge!

This was a fun and very appropriate challenge considering most of us are in a deep freeze,Melissa! Once I looked at the picture I knew I had to use a tree stamp I had. I was inspired by the icy blues in this photo.

Here's my card I made

I finally got a card done for this challenge.  I wanted a darker blue but I fooled around with this long enough and finally said "good enough" and stopped.  This was an interesting challenge.  My take on the impression was blue, cold, and the reflection.  Thank you for hosting this challenge.

Great card Sadie!!  I love the layout--that was one thing I also forgot to mention in my comment.

What tree stamp is that Sadie?  I am alway looking for nice tree stamps!!   :smitten:

Is "fresco paint" a specific product?

I finally posted my piece.  I knew immediately upon looking at the picture that I wanted to combo this with the faux patina, that this would be a birthday card from my Dad (who has been building a model train layout for about 10 years now) and that I would use the Stampendous Christmas postcard stamp that I had.

The impressions I got from the picture were blue, train and oval because of the shape created by the arch of the bridge and it's reflection.

Birthday Train (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1183&message_id=43adbb27eb34db17d83147c02d5235fe&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

Thanks for a really cool challenge.

Great card LeighAnn!  I like your take of the oval from the bridge!  And I am still so impressed with the sentiment embellishment!

The tree stamp is a very old stamp that used to be mounted on wood and has been unmounted for many years now.  I did not write the names of the stamp companies on the unmounted stamps so I have no idea what company made them, I am finding out that was a bad idea......

Fresco finish paint is Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Chalk paint....made in the UK by Paper Artsy.  It is an acrylic paint that dries to a matt chalky finish.  It is fast drying and works really well for backgrounds and stamping.  On the youtubes Paper Artsy has lots of videos showing how to use it.  It is just another fun medium, cause you can't have too many fun mediums you know.

Thank you Sadie for letting me know any info you remember---Maybe searching on the internet I can find similar at least....I too am needing to write on the back or something for my unmounted (and even my clings and clear stamps!!) to remember who made what!

I am going to look into the fersco paint---and I am quickly learning from all the fun things y'all all show that you cannot have too many mediums!!!  and I want them all! lol!!   ;D
