Challenge: Make a Post Card (7/10 - 7/24)
« on: July 10, 2014, 09:19:48 AM »
The challenge is to make a mailable one layer post card.  You must photograph both sides and post them either in the gallery with a link here or directly in this thread.

You must use stamping on your project but you may write or draw on the "mailing" side or print it out if you do not have a stamp that will work.
You may combine with other challenges.
Your project must be new.
You may use a mat to make your project more sturdy, but the project may not be more than 3 layers of cardstock and it must be flat and not dimensional.

I haven't made mine yet.  Search pinterest for ideas or on this blog: http://heroarts.com/blogs/club/2014/07/10/missing-you-libby/

Please ask any questions and chat away here!  I hope you will give it a try!

Heidi. Is there a 'standard size' for mailable postcards?

Good question.  According to the US Mail site, it is 3.5 by 5 inches.  The below characteristics are for post card stamp rates.  Apparently, according to the link below, you can go outside those a bit for a letter stamp rate (or more).  I think this is a good starting size.

Quote
Rectangular
At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick
No more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long x 0.016 inches thick

Watch your mailbox, Heidi! I made a postcard from my 'edge' & I'm putting it in the mail tomorrow.

Yeah, I know Heidi isn't requiring us to actually mail our postcards, but since I need to do it anyway, I've decided to go for it directly.

I had a ball with this, Heidi! Big TY for another fun challenge! O0

That is awesome you are already finished, Daniel.  I will be watching the mail box.

I have a good start on the stamps and basic layout I want to use on the picture side of my postcard.  I need to figure out coloring and the other side.  I have run out of crafting time today so will work on it tomorrow.

Thanks Christin!

I have my picture side of my post card set up and I even colored my sample, but I have no idea how I am going to do the address side yet. I need to think about it.

I was looking through my stamps and was very surprised to see that I have two uninked Pink Paislee sets that ARE airmail and post card themed!!  WHAT?!  I had no idea.  I am going to make use of them for finished up my project.

However, before I found them, I did find some simple line and flourish stamps that would have worked well to partition off the sections.  And my plan C was to just use a ruler and pen.

Side A - Photo Side
My postcard is 5.5 x 4 inches, a larger size but still within the PO guidelines.

Side B - Address Side

I was not able to figure out if or how to make a new challenge folder in the gallery for this at this time.  I just put it in the "other" stamping projects for now.  As long as we link here, it should be okay for now.  I hope some of you might enjoy doing this project.  It was fun to try something different.

Enjoyed seeing your postcard Heidi!...glad you found your forgotten stamps!

Do know that Sadie started the albums for Daniel's and my challenges. Besides send the request with the title of your challenge you also need to send her a brief description that will show on the gallery page. We are learning lots of fun stuff!
Hope I have time to play in this one!

The "powers that be" must have seen my trouble because I saw a great new album in the gallery for the Post Card challenge.  Thank you Sadie!

The best thing is that it was SUPER easy to edit my projects and just change the pull down menu and choose the new album.

Gotta love that!

What a fun challenge, Heidi!

I've got a new stamp set that this will be perfect for this challenge.

Thanks for hosting!
