Ready for month 2?
This month's theme will be love. It can be your standard heart, love birds, etc. images. Or you can use a stamp that you really love!
And this month, we will have a technique requirement. Your technique requirement will be ink smooshing!
This is one of my favorite techniques and I just made a couple of cards using it and I thought it would be a fun one to do with an ATC.
If you are unfamiliar with it, here's a link to a video showing how it's done.
http://www.catherinepooler.com/2014/07/ink-smooshing-wink-stella-pink-sweetie/
If you can't watch the video, basically you ink up your acrylic block(distress inks tend to work best) and spritz with water. Stamp that onto paper, let dry and you end up with a really unique background.
Lot's of colors and combos you can do!
Sign ups are through 02.03 and I will post your partner on the 4th. Your send by will be Feb 16th.
Melissa, Pm'd me that she would be out of town but wanted me to sign her up so she's on for the month. I'm putting it here so I don't forget!
Here's the swap list for the month, Just PM your partner if you need their address.
Lovepug2 to Utah Ann
YellowCherrios to Craft Nerd
HowdyHeidi to Iring
Caribbeangirl to YellowCherrios
Iring to Looser
Craft Nerd to CaribbeanGirl
CarefreeSadie to lovepug2
Utah Ann to HowdyHeidi
Looser to CarefreeSadie
Happy Creating!

I'm in. I liked the video, I wouldn't have thought to put those three colors together that she did.
Thanks for hosting!
-
Me! Me! Me!! I love ATC's!! O0
-
Please count me in!
-
What the heck... I'll join, Pug. Gonna send you an email, pal.
-
Made (& like) my ATC. Watch your mailbox, Pug. #>

Hey, Pug! I've decided to send my ATC direct to the swapmate.
About the 'smoosh'...? I 'know' I followed the basic directions, but looking at it now, I wonder how I did it. LOL!
-
I've got my ATC started. And some extra smooshed papers made their way into my kit for the KIAE. I should be able to finish it up this weekend, if not before.
-
Thank you LeighAnn for adding me! Looking forward to trying smoothing again!
-
I have Sadie's address & will mail my ATC tomorrow. It was fun! Thanx, Pug. :smitten:
-
Cindi, I found an envelope with your address on it and your ATC is out in the mailbox right now. :)
I love this ATC swap, I am finding it quick, creative and fun to make them comparied to the tags. And so much more flat to send!
-
I have your address Sarah!! O0 Haven't started yet though.... :)
-
Heidi I have your address and hope to get the ATC in the mail Monday. Will let you know when I mail it.
-
Wow! You all work fast! I'm so glad y'all are looking the ATC swap. I agree Heidi, they're definitely less tedious than the tags were to make!
-
And so much more flat to send!
Are we not supposed to put lumpy things on our ATCs, because I put stuff on my ATCs that make them lumpy to mail?
I've got mine started and I have a plan for it. So I should get it finished this weekend and hopefully postal on Monday.
-
Heidi, your ATC card is in the mail. Please let me know when you receive it so that I can upload. This was a fun challenge- a little messy but fun.
-

LOL, Pug! Yeah. There were a couple of tags I made that were 'tedious'--aka 'not inspired'--but ATCs & Tags are 'apples & oranges'. Both are fruit, but different in shape, taste, etc. ATCs can take me just as long to make as any other craft item--depends on lots of variables. But you know that.
And so much more flat to send!

So far, LeighAnn has not forbidden 'lumpy' in her ATC swap. Long as it meets the dimensional requirements & any twists, I figure we can do thickers & lumpies if we choose. But... Some folk like to save their ATCs in plastic ATC 'savers'. Those (generally) don't have much 'wiggle room'. HTH 'til LeighAnn responds.

Daniel, it is true that LeighAnn did not specify that the ATC not be lumpy, however, I found that tags were ALWAYS lumpy because of the fibers on top.
Ann, I am looking forward to getting the ATC!
-
Oh Heidi, I didn't get yours in the mail today, because I had to run out and pull it out of the mailbox, because I forgot to scan it. So when I ran back out the mail had come early. It will go out Monday.
There is a small lump.
-
Finished my ATC and will get it in the mail tomorrow O0
-
Looser's ATC came in the mail today. Looser I emailed you a picture so you can post it in the gallery. I like it very much, thank you!
-
I made an ATC Swaps 2015 Album so when putting them into the gallery please put them into that album. It is down the page under Swaps. Thank you!
You can edit the files of the ATC's from January and February and put them into this album too......
-
Glad you liked the ATC, Sadie. Just finished uploading it to the gallery.
I didn't have Melissa's wee fishie in mind when I made this, but couldn't find any french fries stamps in my stash. LOL!
Bettas are 'bettah'! (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1027) ;D
-
Ann, I received your ATC today! Thank you!
-
Heidi I got a nice surprise in the mail today. Thank you! Your ATC is beautiful. Love the colors and shimmer.
Wow, I am feeling so behind! As some of you read on the Christmas thread, I shared that I was away all last week. My parents and I went across the state to be with my sister after her husband passed away from Esophageal cancer. The service was Sunday. I'm back home and in need of some stamp therapy! Hope to start my ATC tonight.
-
Cindi, I am glad the ATC arrived safe and sound. I am afraid the shimmer did not show up in the photo, but I did have fun making it!
-
Yay! I'm off to check out your ATCs Daniel and Heidi!
Cindi, I hope you get to do some stamping soon. It is such good therapy.
Ann, if you can PM me your address, I have your ATC ready to send O0
-

Cindi - I'm so sorry about your brother-in-law. Hopefully you will get some stamping therapy in soon.
Sadie - thanks for setting up the ATC swap album. You rock.
CG - your ATC went postal today.

-
April how did you get the glitter to stick (and stay) on the wooden pieces?
-
Melissa, I used a clear glitter pen O0
-
Oh April---I was coming up with you glittering and then scotch guarding! :laughhard: and it was as simple as a gel pen! Whew! I was overthinking git---so glad I asked! ;D
-
Great ATCs April and Ann! Isn't this technique fun?
And thank you Sadie for creating an album!
-
Sarah your ATC is on it's way!! the 16th of Feb just came at me from nowhere!! :o
I had trouble with this technique.....I always have a way of turning the easiest techniques into hard... :-\ ::) But I finally got a result I liked....figured out that using watercolor paper---even the cheapo kind works--- better than regular CS. I ended up using my cheap watercolor paper (really flat watercolor paper---got it from Target so many years ago in school supplies), b/c I got the best results on it (even compared to my watercolor paper from Micheals; but I'm going to try again with that paper sometime).
I think what hung me up---which is why I have trouble with the watercolor technique too---is the spray of water. If I didn't spray enough, then the droplets left from the ink pad were seen and there was no blending....if I sprayed too much then the colors really blended into the color 'mud' or green despite neither was used. I also think maybe how I was taking the paper off the block also played a part---best result for me was lifting the block off the paper, rather than lifting the paper off the block.
Thank you LeighAnn though for hosting and for a great learning experience as I haven't done this technique before!
-
Ok Sarah your ATC is will be on it's way....tomorrow....I forgot that the mail didn't run today. :-\
-
Melissa, I think this technique and a lot of watercolor ones are just trial and error for amount of water. Even though I have done it a lot of times, I often do not get the desired result the first time. I agree it is much easier with watercolor paper. It just is much more forgiving.
-
Melissa - no worries. I look forward to seeing what you made.
It took me a few attempts before I got one that I really liked. I agree with Heidi that this type of technique involves a lot of trial and error.
-
Good to know that this technique is a trial and error one---when I watched the video that LeighAnn linked, she made it look so easy to me! But I have re-watched it and notice that she does smear the ink pads on there really well over and over the area (as well as kinda twists them too) and also adds lots of water--more than I originally thought she added. But I also didn't notice until now, that she turns the block over onto the paper and then can see thru the block to see the colors blend---which is something that cannot be seen when I put the paper over the block instead of the block over the paper.
-
...I had trouble with this technique.....I always have a way of turning the easiest techniques into hard... :-\ ::) But I finally got a result I liked....
WTG, Melissa! And LOL on "turning easy into hard". With rare exceptions, everything we crafters do--no matter how 'simple'--involves learning what works for us. From the choice of materials & tools to actually using them in a workable way, we have to spend time, effort & be willing to keep at it (a really hard thing sometimes). And (as you point out) 'we' have to like the results regardless of how many others like what we've done. Alas. Such is the life of any artist... ;)
-
Thanks Daniel...I sometimes take it for granted that a technique not often "AS IS"---meaning the technique as I saw it online/video, or read in a magazine is not so simple to come to that result....forgetting, also, that I am sure the person in the video or article also had trial and error and they need to be able to present it "working" for them so we can all see the result successfully.
-
Melissa, I didn't realize that you were taking the paper on top of the acrylic block. I definitely recommed doing it like the video, where she pushed the block down on the paper. Much easier!
-
Yes it is easier to push the block down......I guess I was thinking I could treat it like printing (I've seen some carved stamp sites that press the paper to the stamp while the stamp stays on the table ) but those instances use thick paint or ink not waterery media.
-
Lovepug2 did you get the ATC I sent you? It should have been there last week.......I hope it didn't get lost in the mail....
-
Sadie, I haven't got it yet but our mail hasn't run at all this week due to the ice storm so I'm sure it's waiting for me. I think the mail may run today so I will let you know!
Melissa , it's definitely a trial and error technique! I have found that watercolor paper tends to hold up the best. I tried doing this with some deeper colors recently and it ended up a muddy mess.
-
Sadie our mail finally ran today but no atc. I'm sure they're behind. Hopefully it will come this weekend O0
-
Daniel, are you getting mail in the frozen north? By any chance did my ATC arrive? I mailed it on the 11th!
-
Sadie, I got your ATC today! It's so pretty, I love all of the details. The card was really cute too. Thank you for swapping with me!
-
Here is the ATC I made for February's ATC swap and sent to Lovepug2. I am glad you liked it Lovepug2.

God bless my patient pal Cindi (Iring)! She sent me an ATC & I neglected to let her know I received it. I am a slug! Lower than Whale poop on the ocean's floor. I abase myself before y'all for neglecting my responsibility as a member of the swap.
I plan to do my penance while watching the Oscars show & Downton tonite.
Sorry, Cindi! :smitten:
-
Awww fuhgeddaboudit. You did make me sweat it a little, wondering oh where oh where could my ATC be ...
but it's all good now. Phew!

There will be a swap for next month, I will be posting sign ups later this week O0
-
I got happy mail today - the ATC from Melissa arrived. And I love it.
CG still hasn't gotten the ATC I sent her. Hopefully it is just the bad weather holding it up. But she gave me the go ahead to post the pic. I'll do that tomorrow, since I just got home and will be heading to bed shortly.
-
I so glad you liked the ATC Sarah!
Here is the ATC I sent: Birdie ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1120&message_id=3d6e9c79ed9c94c87aa8994865b31c70&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
Thank you LeighAnn for hosting a fun swap!

Here is the ATC I sent CG. She gave me permission to post it even though she hasn't received it yet. Hopefully, it is just being held up by the bad weather.
