Title: WF19 Curtain Call Challenge (1/26-2/3)
Post by: howdyheidi on January 23, 2019, 08:34:31 AM
Curtain Call

My challenge is to make a card with the Drapery Fold.  This is a common decorative fold that can be done so many ways.  I can’t remember if this was offered before in a fest, but it is such a pretty look, especially for Valentines, that I thought I would do it.

Please use at least one image stamp on your project.  You may even start with plain paper and decorate in with stamping instead of using patterned paper.  But patterned paper is fine, this is a good stash buster to get you using your pretty papers!

Anyhow, here are some resources, but feel free to use another method.

And I was so excited to find the measurements for doing this with 6x6 paper, as most of the others require a larger size!  I haven’t tried this one yet.

This example shows a double pleated card, and how to use the scraps to add pleats to the inside.

I prefer that you do not combine this with other Winterfest challenges, just because there are usually fewer challenges now. However, you may combine with non-Winterfest challenges including Christmas All Year.

I have two samples.  I used some papers that were included in a magazine, so these papers were a bit thinner and I needed to use a very light hand when scoring.

Thanks everyone!

This will definitely work with plain paper, too!  The fold does jazz it up!  And there is a 6x6 tutorial linked above.

Thank you for the challenge Heidi!  I don't remember ever making one of these.  Or maybe I just don't remember, uh oh!  Yours are wonderful, and now I definitely DO want to try it!

I like these, had trouble with cutting.  But my fault, never do good with exact sizes of paper cutting.  I do much better free hand cutting.  I liked that it used pp, I have so much of it.  They would make supper fast thank you cards.

I've always liked this fold too, but I've never tried it.  After looking at the linked tutorials, I looked for more.  I found this one that I think looks pretty cool too.  There's a video as well as measurements:  Amy Helms' Curtain Fold Card Tutorial (https://www.maymaymadeit.com/blogs/news/117888067-curtain-fold-card)

Thank you Daria!  I couldn’t find that blog again to link it!  I think I looked at far too many...

I had to try the full fold that covers the card.  It was the easiest one, don’t know why maybe practice.
The others I used the other side of the two sided paper, but I couldn’t on this one. Not enough contrast.
I used a background I made for Jan s challange a week or so ago with distress oxid inks.  It came out too light, so I stenciled dots on it to match the design in paper, added words.

My card for the challenge, first one I forgot to use a stamped image, but that's ok because I cut the drape angle wrong anyway, then this one the back side of the paper is butterflies so I wanted to use that side but the way I cut it was wrong so I had to go with the polka dot side or all my butterflies would be upside down, this has taken me two days to do, I just don't think this is my week, ugh!

Took a short break from working on the golf props.

This was easy & fun. I applied the drapes so they remained dimensional & used the same pp to make the little lady's carpet.

I punched the hearts from a paint chip card I got at a paint store.

I've forgotten how to send viewers to the gallery, but it's there & I've done an attachment to this post for good measure...

I made 2 cards, one using the full fold and the other using the half fold. I enjoyed revisiting these folds! Thanks, Heidi.
