Title: AIR 2015:Folded Card Challenge
Post by: Far North on May 30, 2015, 01:25:41 PM
Welcome to a challenge to make a 3 layered card with Z- fold!

Please know there are several card designs that meet this description so I am providing details to show you how to make the card's cuts and folds needed for this challenge.  I highly recommend making a mock-up version prior to making the final version.

Jan, you should have seen me trying to come up with a tri-fold card without a pattern.  It should be easy, but . . .

Your link takes me to a blank page.  Try this link. (http://farnorthdesigns.blogspot.com/2015/05/for-artsy-inkers-air-folded-card.html)

I never do anything but the standard fold on a card.  So I'm really excited to give this a try.

In the past I generally have done very well with creating folded cards  but this one stumped me without any directions.  I think not understanding that the middle panel needs to have both sides incorporated into the design has thrown me!   So I am really happy others of you will be able to offer some fresh ideas. Thanks for playing!

Daria LOL you must have been just as puzzle as I have been. Thanks so much for posting a real link to my site.  I was working on scheduling a post for my last mixed media design team assignment which will go live on Monday so I think of moved my link for my challenge as I was doing that.  No matter what happened ever I always appreciate any assistance offered! THANKS!

I got my card finished but I'm waiting for the glossy accents to dry.  I think I may have gone a little overboard.  I'll take and post pics tomorrow.

So I spent about 3.5 hours working on this last night. I wanted to create a scene that spans across all the panels.

I didn't quite follow Jan's directions exactly.  Instead of cutting along the line across the top, I used it as a guide for stamping.  Then I fussy cut around the stamping along the top of each panel.  I've included a couple of additional photos in this post.

Beach Scene (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1611&message_id=c4d0e293a811bfc82f5e3cda2ddd3cc5&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

I think the really crazy thing is that I've got an idea for doing a similar card with a Christmas tree going across all three panels and a garden one where the front panel is the dirt under the garden.

Wow it is so exciting to see these first cards! Such wonderful results! It is fun to see such different styles. They are both great inspiration for development of other styles of cards.   Sarah and Nora, I appreciate all your time working on this first one! Hope the time investment significant improves on future cards!
Thanks so much for playing!...Jan

Here's my z-fold card:  sunset and butterflies (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1625&message_id=19ae7fe969391afe5a6439cc92e16c2e&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

I loved the way this card looked at the beginning before I added the butterflies and flowers.  I like it more now that I added some green flowers to pop but I think I may had added too many butterflies!  lol!  But it was fun all the same to make!

Thank you Jan for a fun challenge that got me thinking!!   O0

Here is my folded card. I did it Jan! LOL. It is not my best work but it was very intimidating to me for some reason.

I used patterned paper and made a garden.

Once I read over your challenge specs, Jan, I was determined to give it a try! So much 'fun'! ::)

I started by hinging together large index cards for my base, then I began planning out the composition. It was a fairly easy task & I did very little masking--just the man so the sentiment wouldn't cover him & the house so the branches & bat wouldn't cover it. Then it was just a matter of adding the lines with a fine-point Sharpie & cutting away the excess cardstock. The use of just the orange DI seemed to work well & I managed to stop fussing before I screwed the pooch by overworking the design--we all know how easy that is to do!  :tickedoff: ;D

Here's the card...Closed (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1662) Open (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1663)

I blame you, Jan, for my temporary insanity that led to this card.   ;)

I ended up attaching 166 die cut pine needles to create the tree.  And the whole thing took 10+ hours.   :o
