Post by: Craft Nerd on February 21, 2015, 12:48:41 PM
Here's the idea, each day I'll post a new question/ topic and you post 5 things that answer the question/ fit in the topic. If you miss a day, feel free to go back and post your responses.  I'll put each topic in this starting post and I'll add a new post with the new topic and my list.   Clear as mud, right? Don't worry, I'll post my list for the first topic/question and that should make it clear.

Sunday 2/22 - what are your 5 favorite stamp companies - can be ones you own stamps from or ones you are drooling over

Monday 2/23 - 5 items in your crafting toolbox that are not items you would get at a craft store (not stuff you are planning to recycle/ upcycle onto a project - that just might be later this week  ???

Tuesday 2/24 - 5 things you would like to get/ do to / change about your craft space

Wednesday 2/25 - what are your 5 favorite techniques?

Thursday 2/26 - what are your 5 favorite tools?

2. heat gun
3. MS small scissors
4.a. large Fiskars paper trimmer
4.b. small Tonic paper trimmer   :coolsmiley:
5. stamp cleaner dauber bottle

I am going to try that tray of water Sarah---when doing my sample challenge piece, I would just spray the stamp with water and wipe with an old sock and that seem perfectly fine (made me think that maybe I need to Re-think about using stamp cleaner....

LeighAnn what is a "white girl pen"?

Melissa - I almost never use stamp cleaner.  I just put a drop of dish soap in the dish with water, and I have one of those stamp scrubber pad (http://www.joann.com/inkssentials-6in-rub-it-scrub-it-rubber-stamp-cleaning-pad/2058568.html?mkwid=QZvmBVRH|dc&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=Shopping+-+Scrapbooking&CS_003=10131488&CS_010=%5BProductId%5D&gclid=CjwKEAiA9qCnBRCb7ZDhvaHSyicSJABGFFHtH3L7IfUXitzdjbwXiLJq9YLXmmQxokp1LmRGx6XraBoC6lbw_wcB) sitting on a paper towel next to the dish of water.  It works great for cleaning stamps and I go.

I only use stamp cleaner when I can't get Stazon ink off the stamp.

5 things always on my desk

1.  Extra large pad of newsprint that covers almost the entire desk.  I rip off the top sheet as it gets messed up.
2.  I also have the AMM spinning tool caddy with plenty of scissors, adhesives, bone folder and stamp positioner
3.  New addition - Basic Grey self healing mat with magnetic ruler (I have an ongoing love/hate relationship with my trimmer, so I'm trying the ruler and craft knife route)
4.  Tiny little rabbit stamp.  It is red rubber mounted on foam with a sticker index (pic of the stamp).  I use it as my "Hallmark" on the back of cards.
5.  spray mister, actually, today I found 3 on my desk!???  I think I can pare down!

1) Hero Arts
2) Gina K
3) Stampendous
4) I Brake for Stamps
5) Northwoods for their designs.

LeighAnn, I just checked out the W plus 9 and they have a nice variety! I love the set with the little girl and the kittens and the little elephants.  They even have some nice flowers!

Ahhhh! Can't believe I forgot Northwoods. I only own 3 of their images but would love more.

And I love inkadinkado but haven't been too impressed with their latest. I own quite a few sets of their stamps, most I purchased when I first got into stamping. Those stamps I still use a ton too.

Sarah, I love house mouse too. I got quite a few of them for super cheap when hobby lobby clearanced out last year. They're so cute. Sometimes I get intimidated coloring them.

Heidi, I ordered a winter theme set, and a couple of the floral ones. I've played a bit with them and I really like them. Great quality and she has a lot of helpful videos too.

1) emery boards - for roughing up clear stamps and cleaning paper nibs

3) mouse pad - to put under paper when stamping
4) sea salt - for sprinkling on watercolor backgrounds to pull out some of the color

5 things not from the craft store:

1) Mousepad, yep I use it too, not just for stamping but also making holes with the paper piercer so I don't damage everything.
2) Makeup sponges -  pretty sure I got that idea from someone here!
3) hair cutting scissors - they are the only ones left in the house that will cut ribbon nicely
4) pieces of acrylic sheet -  DS had some of this around that he cut up into small pieces I can use for extra acrylic blocks.  I tend to have a lot of stamps out on blocks at one time.
5) painter's masking tape

5 things not from a craft store in my toolbox

1.  Poster tape - good for adhering unmounted rubber (or unclingy cling stamps) to an acrylic blocke
2.  Basket style coffee filters - to catch glitter and EP and then funnel it back in to the jar.
3.  Mister - I have a little water mister that used to hold eyeglass cleaner
4.  Baby wipes - clean stamps, blocks, craft mat, hands ...
5.  Frig bins - clear acrylic bins meant for the frig, freezer or pantry that fit clear stamp sets well (see Jennifer McGuire's videos)

Tuesday 2/24 - 5 things you would like to get/ do to / change about your craft space

1) hang a peg board to hang my decorative scissors on
2) find a permanent spot for my BigKick so I don't have to clear a space to use it
3) find a better home for my silhouette so I don't have to clear my whole desk to use it
4) finish labeling the drawers so I don't have to open everyone to find my pop dots
5) get a second wheeled drawer thing like the one I got when I got my desk (which would probably be the home for my Big Kick)

I definitely want to add a lint roller to my craft room.  Glitter floated all over my desk a few days ago and that would be a quick way to clean it up!

1.  Oh, just in time!  Add a lint roller!
2.  Hang the wire cube panels (they look like white grids) on the wall behind the door.  A way to make use of a narrow space and display either products or finished pieces.
3.  A fancy closet organizing system or ikea expedit (or two) in the closet would be a dream come true!
4.  Make room for my sewing machine (currently in the dining room) and my Silhouette (currently in the breakfast nook)!  My husband is a patient, easy going man!!
5.  Well, as long as I'm dreaming ... I would love to smash a hole in one wall to add another window!!  Somehow I lost that battle when the house was built.  Never too late, right?

Tuesday 2/24 - 5 things you would like to get/ do to / change about your craft space

1. I would like an actual desk/work area someday
2. I would like to get rid of the twin bed taking up room in the craft room.
3. If I did those two things I might have a place to put my fuse instead of on the twin bed.
4. I need to put up the holders and string wire so I can display the latest projects instead of sitting them on the printers.
5. I need a new chair cushion because if you don't sit down just right the cushion falls off the chair, I just don't ever think about it when I am out and about to buy a new one.

I really am quite low needs as long as I can get at my stuff I am fine.

Pug. The recipe stamps were from Sweet Stampen. I think they are still available. Not sure where/if you can find SugaLoaf stamps. They morphed into 'Inque Boutique' & I believe 'Plaid Ent.' acquired that company.

Monday 2/23 - 5 items in your crafting toolbox that are not items you would get at a craft store.

This is a toughie for me since the B&M stores--indy & big box--are few & far between in my area. But... I had the luxury (?) of shopping for craft supplies before there were craft store--specific or general. So... My 5 will also list possible sources other-than-crafts.

1) Paper: Labels, plain paper, cardboard. Staples or other Office Supply stores.

2) Cosmetics & Applicators: Drug Stores.

3) Tape(s): Masking, painters, carpet. Hardware, Paint, Carpet stores.

4) Gelatin (for making ink/paint sheets: Supermarket.

5) Polish remover & rubbing alcohol: Dollar stores.

I'm skipping the 'change' question for now. ;)

Cindi, is that your closet and how you have it organized?

Quote
Tuesday 2/24 - 5 things you would like to get/ do to / change about your craft space

1. Add a bulletin board to post inspiration, finished cards, instructions
2. I would love a long shelf the entire length of my craft table that's about 7 in off my table.  I have a shelf like what you use in a kitchen cabinet or behind a kitchen sink that works great; just like it longer. Maybe multiple shelves also above my table.
3. I would love to knock a hole through one of the walls and join it to a spare room next door and make the space even larger!
4. Figure out a better way to store punches....I have them all "tetris-ed" into a two level container and also a shoe box container.
5. I wish I could figure out WHY, after I reorganize and move things around and have created more room to craft in---why do I always end up with just about a 12"x12" area that I am working in!!  I'm getting better though....so one day..one day...

Heehee, small workspace-itis must be contagious!

Melissa,
No, that's not my closet.  I found the pic on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's site.  I think it might be her closet.  I just was searching for a pic of those wire grids used to store stuff on the wall.  I first got the idea when a LSS used them to display sample cards, but I haven't mounted mine yet.  I have the square grids (I used to use them as intended in cubes, but with extra shelves tie-wrapped in place to store paper horizontally).

Yes, the sparkle and soft looks like a cool product. I would like to see it in action.  The new Hero Arts waves background and nautical stamps are cool too.

5 Wish list items:

1) Definitely the Brusho crystals. I have seen some great vibrant backgrounds with them.
2) This cute set by w plus 9. (http://www.123stitch.com/item/Pick-of-the-Litter-Stamps-WPlus9-Design-Studio/WP9POTL)
3) Some cute animal stamps or something like that for kids cards. I have nearly nothing like that! I don't even know which ones I would want either. But I am considering these from Stacey yacula/Purple Onion (http://stores.purpleoniondesigns.com/a-sweet-summer/)
4) Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves, Picked Raspberry, Gathered Twigs and Squeezed Lemonade
5) This papertrey ink Christmas set. Love LIves Here (https://www.papertreyink.com/stamps/love-lives-here-holiday-stamp-set/)

I learned about Brusho and the sparkle n soft from an online friend's blog.  Here's a card where she used both: Caroline Cards by Mary (http://carolinacardsbymaryh.blogspot.com/2015/01/deedees-digis-happy-brrrr-day.html)

Thanks for the link!

I forgot that I found it while considering this stamp set (http://sparklensprinkle.com/o/product_info.php?cPath=82_95&products_id=3635) that Stampwilly used in a recent card.

6) Rubbernecker watercolor stamp sets.

Saturday 2/28 - what are 5 techniques you are dying to try (preferably one's you've never done before)?
I am going to have to pass on this one, techniques are just not something I think all that much about.  I see a card I like and try to copy it or something done with some medium and I will try it, I just don't put things into techniques I guess.

Sunday 3/1 - In honor of the last day of WF15 - your 5 favorite things about Winterfest.
1. I like the anticipation that is shown by all of the Artsy Inkers for a fest
2. I like the idea of doing things that other people that I "know" are also doing.
3. I love that so many people came up with challenges to offer and so many tried and completed so many of them.
4.  I like that we all seem to grow closer within our group when we all plan, carry out, and participate in a fest.
5.  I love looking at everybodies projects in the gallery from Winterfest.
