I thought about Daniel when I saw this technique for backgrounds. You need crayons, dark colored ink pads and white or cream card stock. Just scribble hard with your crayons on the card stock leaving some white spaces. Then rub over the the whole card stock with a dark colored ink pad making sure you cover the entire card stock and that you cover the white spaces completely. Take a paper towel and wipe off the ink on the crayon marks. The crayon acts as a resist. I thought the backgrounds would be fun for Halloween cards and birthday cards. There are pictures below of a card I made and another background. You can try circles, stripes and other scribbles too. Please use the heading IF 2018 SS for your heading in the gallery and link your card here so that we won't miss it. Please make several backgrounds so that we can see what you made and use one background for your completed card. Please use at least one stamped image on your card. I can't wait to see what you create! I will also be giving an RAK to a randomly chosen winner!

Fun! Actually April this is sort of what I was planning as a challenge--you saved me lots of work & I want to play with this.

I may have a different sort of crayon challenge to offer too.

April so sorry to have to say that I need to admit I am an incredibly messy crafter. Crayons are a very messy product for me to work with.  I seem to always have crayon crumbs decide to live deep in the loops of my carpet and eventually change the carpet color.  So I gave them away before I left Fairbanks.  I thought I had some commercial paper that would work...but wrong I can't find it. :idiot2:  Sorry I won't be able to play in your challenge.

I'm doing pretty well with challenges so far.

I uploaded 3 pics for this challenge...

1. is 4 bases I came up with. I'm kinda 'so-so' with them, but it was interesting to do.
2. is the base I decided to try out first as a BG for a completed piece. I cut it into (directional) strips & applied them with spacing to a piece of PP
3. is the finished card--all colouring done with crayons (of course)  ::)

Depending on how much time I have, I may try working with my remaining bases--this was fun, Willy!

I scribbled over white cardstock, dragged blue ink overtop. Burnish the ink off crayon.
Put die cut over top.

Jan, you are missing out!  Take your crayons outside if you have to  ;) I used to send the kids outside with play doh.  I love a box of crayolas, the smell, the box, everything about them.  I'm tempted to buy new ones every back to school season!  (Were you using a different brand?  Maybe they are messier?)

I had fun scribbling with crayons, so I made three backgrounds.
The flowery background was inked over with Vintage Photo distress ink, I was trying for a more vintage feel.  I also colored on watercolor paper for the flowery one because I thought the texture might be nice.  The other two were inked with Black Soot Distress and I used smooth white cardstock.  Do some colors resist better than others?  Or maybe I scribbled too quickly?  That could be it ... on the confetti-ish background my light yellow lines don't show up as well, but then I was trying to keep it "loose" and took quick swipes at the paper.  I think I needed to lay down a heavier line of crayon.

Thanks for the fun challenge, April!  It's been too long since I've had my crayons out!

Here is the Halloween card I made for my mom using the candy corn colored background.

On re-reading your challenge, April, I do see that you said to "scribble hard"!
