Hi Everyone! I am posting a new challenge for August. I hope you will enjoy it. You will need alcohol inks, watercolor paper and a pan of water. Please use the technique shown in this video and make a card or tag with one of your backgrounds. Please use at least one stamped image on your project. I made quite a few backgrounds. Please post your projects in the gallery with the heading AI Floating and link them here so we all won't miss them! Have fun!
P. S. If you do not have alcohol inks you can also use fingernail polish. Fingernail polish works much in the same way!

Thanks for hosting April!
I watched the video and I like how the color comes up on both sides of his tags and paper.
Your sample card is beautiful! I love that vibrant fish and the sparkle you added in the sand and on the fish scales.
I hope to try this once I get my Christmas mess picked up :o

Cool technique, I have never tried! Looking forward to it!

I made a bunch of the papers with glossy cardstock and alcohol inks. One paper took the ink weirdly and that is one one I made this card from.
Currently working on getting the bugs out of my Halloween cards for grandkids, so because of the colors, it ended up being a Halloween card.

Yay-my first challenge since December---and a challenging one too! Thanks for the fun April!
Here are some of my experience: I chose to use watercolor paper since that was unpacked  I found the AI dissipated quickly probably since I was stingy with my AI. I usually don't wear gloves but I did for this technique. My SU plastic container that stamps come in did not become stained but my rubbermaid container was stained in a few areas. My finger pressure when dunking the paper underwater provided an opportunity for the ink to color the paper in circular patterns.
Can't wait to see your creations! Here are my samples. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=3490#top_display_media) and my card. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=3491)

Jan, I am glad to see you back with us. It seems like forever! I laid most of my papers on top of the water too. Your card is lovely. Thanks for doing the challenge!

I just made 8 backgrounds! They need to dry now!

I really enjoyed using my alcohol inks in a new way! For mine, I dipped my paper under the water on one edge, and then lifted it out after they were mostly underwater. For the most part, I liked the tops of the papers much better than the bottom and that may have had to do with the technique I used. I guess I was lucky, my fingers didn't get inky at all.
here is my finished card:

I agree, once you knew how easy and fast it was, why not make more?

YAH!! I got to the challenge before I leave on vacation :)
Here is my backgrounds using watercolor papers: http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=3494#top_display_media
Here is my glossy cardstock backgrounds: http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=3495#top_display_media

Did everyone else get like speckles on their watercolor paper? Mine aren't a solid color, hard to describe... The ones I did on glossy paper the colors seem to be more smooth.
Fun technique April, thanks for the challenge!!

Connie, your backgrounds turned out great! I love your pretty card. Thanks for doing the challenge!

Yes, I did get some speckles. On watercolor paper and plain paper.
I used both the technique showed in the video where he drags the paper through the floating ink, and Jan's technique where she laid the paper on top and pushed it in to the water. I loved how after using Jan's technique sometimes there would be a bubble on the underside of the paper (the side in direct contact with the floating AI). When the bubble would pop, there would be white space! Very fun!
Here (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=3499#top_display_media) are my backgrounds. I used watercolor paper, plain embossed paper, home printed tags and store bought printed tags.
I used some of the paper on the cover (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=3500#top_display_media) of a Traveler's Notebook insert.
I'm attaching some of the inside spreads to show you how I used some of the tags. While I didn't use much stamping (I did stamp part of my name on the back of the cover, not shown) or make a card ... I did have fun using my alcohol floated pieces.
Question : Did anyone else have ink rubbing off long after your backgrounds were dry? Is it just the humidity in Florida?
Where some of the brightest spots are, I get a little ink transfer if I rub it. That is one reason I put the two turquoise tags directly across from each other ... if ink rubs off it won't show on the opposite tag.
Thanks for hosting the challenge this month, April!

Hmmm, I didn't notice anything rubbing off, I will have to check the next time I go in my craft room, I have made a couple cards now so I hope it doesn't come off :)
-
I like your project, Cindi. It looks interesting. I am glad you were able to use a lot of your alcohol pieces! Thanks for doing my challenge! ;D I also did not get any color to come off. But I will double check also.

I definitely have specks on mine, but I didn't notice anything rubbing off, but maybe if I rubbed hard enough. Getting the paper completely wet seemed to rough up and loosen the fibers of the paper, so it would rub off more easily, kwim?
-
Thanks, ladies, for doing the challenge! These backgrounds look great and I hope you all will be using them in the future.

April suggested nail polish instead of alcohol ink. Now I did that once before, so had to give it a try again. Used glossy paper. Since still working on Halloween cards, that is the card I made with the nail polish background
