You asked about inking up a stamp...I have used a coated paper plate with a pad of 2-3 layers of muslin the size of my stamp but perhaps you could try painting it on first.  I think the tough part would be cleaning the stamp before the ink dries.  Good luck!

That is a great idea for making your own ink pads!  I have all those items!!  (well except for the coated paper plate---put I do have freezer paper or parchment paper instead--though I'd do the freezer paper first. 

Yes the cleaning is another thing that makes me hesitant to try the ink with stamps---but I suppose if I have a baby wipe ready to go, it'd be fine.
