For my challenge, I would like you to create at least two backgrounds using the linked stamp and stencil technique. You will get an extra entry if you complete a card with your background.

Here are my backgrounds and impressions/tips for this technique. You will see that I used a black pen on one background, but a light brown Tombow pen on the other. I also used Rubber Stamp Tapestry peg stamps, but I saw a lot of other choices for smaller stamps in my other stamp sets. I found that the bold stamps didn’t go through the stamps as well (there was that border around the edge that didnt’ made contact with the paper) but in the end, I don’t think it made a difference once you made your borders with the pen.

I think a medium to large opening stencil would work best. I planned to see if I could get a background stamp to work but didn’t get to it yet.
Any questions? Have you tried this technique before and do you have any tips? Please share the link to your backgrounds/card in this thread too!

Your backgrounds look great! Can't wait to try this.

Looks like fun, will have to check out what I have to play with :)

Looks fun. I spent an hour looking over my stencils to pick "just the right one." This is working outside the box for me. Thanks for the gentle push.

Beth, I hope you will be happy with something that you found. I know I prefer one of my backgrounds over the other. Even if you don’t like it, I hope you will post it. I think a lot of what we do in fests is helping each other figure out tips for these techniques!

Beth, you are not going to know if the stencil is the right size till you try( use scrap paper)
I did two yesterday that are terrible. I did three and deceived to try the leaf one again and again.
The holes seems the right size, then it was finding the correct stamps. By far the peg stamps work best.
I suppose you could make some shapes that were tiny out of fun foam and put them on a block making your own peg stamps.

It seems I forgot to post here.
I really like this challenge, I have been playing with my embossing folders and watercoloring the raised parts.
So this was just a twist on that idea.
This is something I got at the stamp show. Always looking for coffee ideas.

I'm loving the cards made for this challenge!
I had fun using peg stamps and tiny wood block stamps that I haven't used in quite a while. The peg stamps definitely worked better.
I got two backgrounds (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=5752#top_display_media) made today. Hope to use them in cards soon.

I finished an Easter card using the Sunray stencil. I trimmed out the sunray and stamped a circle center. Bet you can't see where I slipped with the pen, haha!
Thanks for the challenge Heidi, it was fun!

Here is the card I made with the brick wall stenciled background. I had fun with this!
April's Z fold with the border punch reminded me that I have some Martha Stewart border punches. I used the anemone punch but I also tried cutting a grass strip with those crazy scissors that cut multiple lines ... fringe scissors? I decided I liked this punched border better.
Thanks Heidi!
