Happy New Year Inksters!! I thought an ATC swap would be fun to do for 2015.
Here are the general details of the swap -
All ATCs need to be standard ATC size 2.5x3.5
Each month I will have a theme and sometimes a technique requirement.
Once partners are posted, please contact them for their address. You will be mailing your ATC to them.
You are only required to make 1 ATC . That said, I've decided I am going to make 1 to send and 1 to keep.
Pretty easy, right ? O0
So for January, the theme will be snowflakes. You can create them however you like. Stamp, stencil, sticker, hand cut,die cut, etc.
I will keep sign ups now through the 8th and will post your swap partner on the 9th
Your mail by date will be jan 26th
Once your partner has received their ATC, please post them for all to see. Any questions, please post them here.
I had so much fun hosting and doing the tag swap but can't wait to explore the world of ATCs! I hope you all will join in #>.
-
I am definitely in! Thanks for hosting. I think this new swap will be tons of fun!
-
Cool - I was wondering if you were going to do the tag swap again this year. It will be fun to give ATCs a try this year.
Sign me up.
-
I'll join in! Thank you for hosting Lovepug2!
-
I am afraid of ATC's! what are they? what do you do with them? How do you make one? LOL
-
Yes!! Count me in!! O0
-
Leigh Ann I am sorry I am not going to available to play this month. But I am happy I won't miss your gesso challenge.
-
Yes, I would like to be included.
-
I want to play! Please count me in.
-
Sign me up! O0
-
Wow!! We are off to a fantastic start!
Kathy, ATCs are artist trading cards. Just small decorative pieces of art you create. I'm sure there's a better explanation than that, lol! Most create them out of heavy cardstock, watercolor paper, artist paper. You can also buy them pre cut for a few bucks at craft stores. As far as I know, the standard size is 2.5x3.5. You can display them or store them in baseball sleeve protectors.
-
I am going to pass on this one and watch and see what everyone makes! I really have no clue how to do one, hehehe.

Kathy, maybe you can play along but not join the swap, just to get your feet wet. I felt the same way as you did before I started just cutting a piece 2.5 by 3.5 and just trying it. :) Maybe then next time you will feel more comfortable after trying it and then seeing what everyone comes up with. Just an idea...
-
LOL! Long as I have to start going thru all my stuff, I might just as well join the swap!
I'm in, Pug!
YO, SWLady! Just go for it, Kathy! I guarantee you will be amazed at how easy ATCs are to make. If not, I promise to double your work back (whatever that means) ;D
I'm guessing for this initial ATC, we have to keep all our work within the card dimensions--no going over-the-edge. ::) Sok! It'll be a 'trial' for moi, but I know I can do it. ;)
For any newbies (or even those who've done loads of ATCs)... Do you have a fave method for creating them?
I've used 2 ways over the years & both work for me...
1. Cut the base & work within it.
2, Make a larger piece & use an 'ATC-finder*) to isolate the card(s) you want to use.
* To make a 'finder', cut a 2,5x3.5 opening in a piece of CS or heavy paper. Then move the finder over your work until you find the ATC you like. A TIP? Try moving your finder diagonally over a work. You'll be amazed at what you find!
-
Kathy-you can do this! There is no right or wrong ATC! The size is only non-optional part...and theme in this case. Look in a search of our gallery for ATC...also a google or pinterest.
The very first tag we did 2 years ago also had a snowflake theme. Actually, it is much like a tag but easier cause with ATCs you don't have to mess figuring out the longer top and bottom and no top ribbons! You may want to use some smaller stamps but that truly isn't necessary...only partial images to the edges adds interest to your design.
Decide what coloring product you like to use best and go for it. Then do it and it will be done. No fretting just put it in the mail. Remember we all start at different places and that is totally okay...but we only learn more by taking a few new steps.
Sending you good creative thoughts!..Jan
-
k, you all have talked me into it. I will try, LOL.
Some Questions:
Any other requirements besides the size? Like can it be layered? or does it have to be flat?
What do you put on the back of it? I've seen places say your name and date should be on the back.
I read that watercolor paper is the best. Do y'all agree with that?
Any other things I should know before starting?
-
I almost always use watercolor paper or Bristol board (another thick paper good for mixed media).
As to the layers and what to put on the back, I think that is up to LeighAnn.
Other things: I usually like to do a background technique, but it isn't required. Just a nice place to start if you don't have other ideas.
-
SW lady-There are no rules for ATC about layering or not unless LeighAnn writes it into the challenge description.
Yes, it is standard practice to add your name and date to the back just like any other stamped piece you create.
And like a card I choose the type of paper most appropriate to what is being done on top of your base-if it is stamping and ink-cardstock is often perfect.
Have fun!
-
Jan is right layers are fine and please sign and date the back of them :)
Paper is up to you, I've used watercolor, heavy cardstock, Bristol paper and mixed media paper before.
Here is the swap list!
SWLady to yellowcherrios
Yellowcherrios to lovepug2
Lovepug2 to CraftNerd
Craftnerd to Looser
Looser to SWLady
Iring to Yankee
Yankee to CarefreeSadie
CarefreeSadie to HowdyHeidi
howdyHeidi to CaribbeanGirl
Caribbeangirl to Iring
Just contact your swap mate if you need their address! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's ATCs!
Did anyone see the splitcoaststampersstamping stamper tutorial for the ATC book? Pretty neat! And she made it out of 1 sheet of paper!
-
Kathy & I have each other's mailing address. I plan to get my ATC done & mailed ASAP.
-
Cool - I've got Daniel's address and a plan for my ATC. I just got a new Darice embossing folder with snowflakes. Now I just need to kick this cold so I have enough energy to do anything.
-
My ATC is in the mail to CarribeanGirl! It was a fun theme for me and I knew just what snowflake stamps I wanted to use since I have not had much of a chance to use them yet.
-
I'm still working on mine! I have your address LeighAnn--unless you've moved lately...
-
I am working on mine ;-) It's a slow process since I am not sure where to go, but I have gotten the background done. Took me 4 tries to get something I liked, hehehe.
-
Nope, I haven't moved Melissa!
Mine is halfway done. I'm a little unsure of my next step.
Kathy, you can do it! You can do it! We need a cheerleading smiley, lol!
-
I am still working on mine! It seems that I do a little bit and let it set a while and then do a little bit and let it set, then rinse and repeat. I like it so far so I don't want to do anything to ruin what I already have done which would then make me start all over again. If I leave it set sometimes an idea will come to me but if no further ideas come to me out of the blue then I guess it is done now........LOL!
-
Heidi, I received your ATC this morning. I love it. Love the colors!
I am getting ready to start mine O0
-
April, I am glad you like the ATC, I certainly enjoyed making it!

Great ATC Heidi!
I think I am finished with mine. But I feel like I should do more to it....but I should probably just walk away...just walk away...
Now for some reason, I thought our ATCs in our swap are not to have any 3D to it---is that right? I was looking over the requirements and didn't see that, but I really thought that was one of the requirements.....am I getting mixed up with another thread?
-
Heidi, your ATC is so pretty! The colors are so bold! Did you use reinkers or DI pads on your background?
Melissa, lol sometimes the hardest part is to walk away!
I'm fine with them being layered or 3d. I think some keep them one layer so they store easier.
I worked on mine and it's almost finished. I can't find something I wanted to use on it! I always misplace my stardust pen!
-
Sorry, that miss the post, but I will be following and commenting on the uploads.
-
Thank you for the nice comments.
LeighAnn, I actually just used regular distress inks. I know I got a nice bold color, I think maybe I did not add much water and that is why? Or do you know what, I think I may have mixed broken china AND some chipped sapphire. That would probably explain it!
-
Ok I finished mine. I need to mail it before I do more to it, LOL. It doesn't really need anything else! I have your address yellowcheerios!
-
I received a beautiful ATC from Yankee. It is wonderful with of course snowflakes. Thank you so much Yankee!
-
I've got my ATC started but I'm not sure what I want for a focal image yet.
Heidi - your ATC is beautiful.
-
Thanks for the info on the distress inks Heidi.
Yankee, looking forward to seeing yours!
Sarah,yours is on its way:)
Ann, if you would like I will swap with you! Just let me know if you're interested.
-
Mine is in the mail to yellowcheerios. Probably won't get picked up till tomorrow, I think the mail has already come for today.
-
Got mine in the mailbox this morning to be picked up LeighAnn! O0
Looking forward to yours Kathy! :D
-
Would you believe I forgot to photo my ATC before I mailed it.
-
LOL, Yankee! Stuff happens. No need to sweat it.
I got my ATC & a KIAE project out to SWLady today. Yay for me!
-
My ATC is ready to go. I wanted to make sure it was completely dry before I mailed it. I will send it off first thing in the morning O0
-
I worked on my ATC all afternoon! Lots of trial and error, or maybe I should say trials and tribulations! I need to know when to stop when it comes to watercoloring. I tend to overwork it. No need to worry though Yankee, haha! I finally arrived at something I like. Check your Artsy Inker mail, I need your address.
-
I finally mailed the ATC to howdyheidi today so it is on it's way.......I hope you like it when it gets there.
-
Sadie emailed me a picture of the ATC I made for her. I posted it in the gallery.
-
Yankee, I like your ATC, I left you a comment in the gallery.
I put my ATC in the mail to you yesterday. I hope it doesn't melt!
-
Yankee, I just love your ATC! Great job.
Just out of curiosity this morning I searched snowflake stamps on a couple of online shops and couldn't believe how many different ones there are.
I also searched stencil and came up with oodles of those too.
-
I am excited waiting for the ATC to arrive, but am also wondering about next month's swap?
-
Hoping Cindi received my ATC by now. I'm excited to see what is in store for next month O0
-
I received Sadie's fun ATC today. I have to say I like it a lot and it was fun to get a snowy ATC on a snow day!
-
Looking forward to seeing more. I just realized my comment I left on Yankee's didn't save for some reason.
I got a fantastic one from Melissa! I think maybe she used a spirograph on it? It's very cool looking and has a neat artsy look to it. She also sent it in a fun stamped envelope too! Thanks Melissa, I love it!
I will be posting the sign ups for February either tomorrow or Wednesday. I want to include a technique challenge to it but can't make up my mind on which one I want to do!
-
Wow, I knew my desk was a mess but.... I thought I had mailed mine. I just found it stuck under a bunch of stamps!!! So it is going out tomorrow since mail has already come for today... and I don't want to trek out in the snow to the mailbox, lOL
-
Here is the ATC I sent to howdyheidi. I hope she liked it. And thank you for looking.
Linky! (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=976&message_id=f86e74e06d275785a73eea15153a3597&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
-
I do like it very much! Left praise in the gallery!
-
I'm glad you liked the ATC! I'll post photos tomorrow and explain how I did it..
I wanted to see how mailing an enveloped decorated with the spray mist mailed---looks like it made it! On the envelope I used the shoe and owl stamp I carved back in November (I think it was)---I thought it would be fun since I haven't got to use them yet! Glad you liked them!
-
I think I was the last one to mail their ATC but I got it out by the deadline. It was fighting me yesterday when I was putting the finishing touches on it. But I'm happy with how it came out and hopefully Daniel will like it.
-
Here is the ATC I sent LeighAnn: Spirograph-Like Snowflake (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=977&message_id=c72b3135dd3ce55aced1d7644cf40360&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
I couldn't decide on which view to use to show everything on the ATC! lol! One shows the Glossy accent snowflake better, the other will show the perfect pearl spray, etc....
So much fun it was making this month's ATC LeighAnn! Thank you!
-
I received my Unique Snowflake ATC from Cindi. Love it! Thank you!
-
I went ahead and uploaded my ATC to the gallery. I am hoping Cindi has received it by now O0

-
I got Looser's ATC yesterday, well actually today, it was delivered to my neighbor! I will post pics tomorrow after bowling.
-
:-\ No, I didn't get your ATC yet April, so I'm going to try and refrain from looking in the gallery so I don't spoil the surprise!
-
Cindi, are you serious??? That's just crazy!!!! :tickedoff:
-
I know! Can you believe it?! Maybe it's been held up by weather? But it's gorgeous here.
I will let you know as soon as it arrives.
I have to tell you, I had a little trouble getting in to the snowflake theme, being that I try to avoid those here in Florida! ;)
I used 5 different snowflake stamps and thought the word "unique" was fitting. So why do I live in FL yet still own more than 5 snowflake stamps?! Haha, it's a stamp addiction. I confess.
Here is the ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=-47&pid=983#top_display_media) I sent to Yankee.
I will come back in a minute and add a link to the video Far North shared using Speedball Elegant Writer calligraphy marker.
ETA : Here (http://duhnproductions.com/forum/index.php?topic=436.msg4442#msg4442) is a link to the topic asking for help with ink in the Technique forum started by Yellowcherrios.
Far North replied that she has been using Elegant Writers in a watercolor class.
Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBe6bG6ouZo) is a link to a youtube video on how to use Elegant Writer made by artist Karlyn Holman for Cheap Joes.
I don't really draw, so I automatically had the idea "what would happen if I used the marker to color a stamp"? This swap gave me a chance to try it out.
-
A wonderful group of ATC's so far! Are you all as amazed as me that there are so many different snowflake images?!
Iring, that's great that you were able to try out a technique you hadn't done before!
I never thought about it might be difficult for you all to create a snowy card when its warm where you are!
I'm hoping Sarah has received mine by now.
I posted sign ups for next month this morning!
-
No, I'm glad you picked snowflakes LeighAnn! You pushed me to use my snowflake stamps. That's a good thing, poor neglected flakes, haha!
-
Got my ATC from Sarah (Craftnerd) yesterday & still LMBO! Not about the ATC--It's lovely!--but about the envelope in which it arrived.
Thanks, Sarah!
-
Our pal SWLady (Kathy) uploaded a pic of the ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=986) I sent her.
Kathy was only able to do one photo & the ATC is nestled in the KIAE tag I also sent her. 'Sok!
I kept this ATC. simple. The bear is a St. Dennis from IBBS. The snowflake punches are from McGill.
-
Leigh-Ann - I did receive your ATC. And I love it. The bunny is too stinkin cute.
Daniel - I think I've mentioned before that my postal worker father made me neurotic about sending lumpy stuff in a regular envelop. :uglystupid2: I can't help it. Every time I go to put something with 3D embellishments on it in the mail I hear him telling me that it will get caught in the machinery and shredded. So I feel compelled to use padded envelops. I'm glad it gave you a good laugh and that you liked the ATC
Here's the ATC I sent Daniel - Snowflake ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=992&message_id=22c5ca4ecc56122a98ef129b088fa4c0&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
I made the embellishment from the top of a glass Christmas ornament. When I broke a few back when I was making ornaments in October, I figured I could do something with them. I'm such a crafting pack rat. :D
Everybody has made fabulous ATCs this month.
-
April, I got your ATC today! Yippee! They must have been holding it hostage or something. 9 days from your house to mine seems like a long time.
Your ATC is so pretty! I love the dimensional snow and the glittery embossed verse. Very nice! I'm so happy to have it.
-
Hey all, I have a chance to upload a better picture of Looser's ATC that he sent me. It is awesome! Here it is! I love the bear :D
Looser's ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1000&message_id=3032cc77102a1f1143275d7d41123870&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
I wonder if yellowcheerios got mine yet?
-
Great ATC, Daniel :)
I just realized I need to upload mine still :o
Kathy, I think Melissa May still be out of town.
-
TY for the 2nd pic, Kathy! :smitten:
I left some 'Hows' in the comment. Still not real crazy about how the pink works for the cheeks & tongue, but 'sok.
The ATC's edge was done with a (black) Sharpie & a 'shield'. ;)
-
I'm back home! But DH was home while I was out of town and said that I did not receive your ATC yet, Kathy. I hope I get it today! I am also hoping the postoffice didn't lose some of our mail.... Maybe the snow storms slowed down mail going to the west?? ???
-
Kathy I still did not receive your ATC yesterday.... :'( But I'd say you can go ahead and post yours. I'll let you know when I get it.
-
Gosh. I don't know what happened. I do know it's taking me an extra day to get things but this is too long. If you don't get it soon I will make you another!!
-
Here is the ATC I sent to yellowcheerios. I am sorry she hasn't received it yet! I mailed it the 27th so it has been over a week and a half.
I will start a new one to send again tomorrow! Of course it will be different cuz I have no more little snowflakes, hehehe.
ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1018&message_id=013f6c0e70d3beb4864165dad986211f&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
-
I finally remembered to upload my ATC I sent to Sarah.
If you look closely you will see the hazards of not cleaning your stamps well! Some pink ink accidently transferred!
I did the gesso resist technique for my background.
http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1020
-
'Accidents' happen, but (like your 'pinking'), Pug, they can 'work'. Yours does! ;) O0
-
LeighAnn, what stamp is the bunny from? I love it!!
-
If you look closely you will see the hazards of not cleaning your stamps well! Some pink ink accidently transferred!
This is a clear example of how our eyes tend to be drawn to the slight boo boos on our own work but don't notice them as much in other's work. I didn't even notice the pink ink until you mentioned it. I also think it shows up more in the photo than in real life. I just love that bunny.
-
Sarah, I'm glad you said that because I don't recall it being so visible in real life!
The bunny stamp is an older one from Lawn fawn, it's one of their singles.
-
Now that you said "Lawn Fawn" LeighAnn, I can totally see the bunny is a Lawn Fawn. so cute!
