I took time from working on the 'cleanout' (don't tell my sister, please! :tickedoff:) & put together my kit envelope. Long as I was stealing time, I made my 'kept' project & will send it to CG (along with a piece I did for her WF15 challenge. That project went very 'south', but it's still interesting... ::)

I plan to get my kit mailed this monday once I have my swapmate on Sunday. May be the last (for a while) KIAE I can do given the current need to get this estate sale & my relocation over with. 'Sok! I have addresses & postage stamps--plus a few phone #s--so I can stay in touch. ;)

Despite the need to fill trash bags... I tweaked my kit once I got my swapmate. Anyone else who starts a kit & tweaks it when they know where it's going?

Truth is that everyone who has honored our KIAE swaps by joining have been excellent at using what they get--no matter how 'strange' the contents might be.

Sweat not, Melissa! There's 'regular' stuff in the kit. But I'm betting the non-regular will intrigue you. ::)

Looking forward to what you send Daniel!!!

I'll be trying to put mine together here over the next few days---last time (my first time to kit swap) I seemed to gather a little bit each day as ideas came to me.  We'll see if it goes the same this round.

Part of the 'fun' of our KIAEs has been how every swapper has dealt with the need to make a kit that allows them to both make their projects & still provide their swapmate with options of their own.  ;)

Sounds fine, Kathy. I'm sure whatever you send will be more than fine. You always send interesting images & other.

I PM'd Melissa about the kit I sent her & she posted back. Didn't tell her what was in the envie, but I gave her a head's up that it included a finished project. I don't usually do that, but some things she said & did for both my fingertip & CG's dry-embossed WF challenges helped inspire me to tweak my kit & make the project.

That one of the several things I like about our KIAEs. Not only can they have a few guidelines, but we often have other challenges & chats that can be used for building our kits & pieces.

Have a good'un!

Stuff you send to me usually takes about a week, Kathy. I'm looking forward to seeing the goodies.

My kit to Melissa went out last monday. She may have it by early next week. Same for the pieces I sent to CG. Weather may have slowed down their progress a bit, but figure they should all arrive soon.

I had a bit of a mailing snafu yesterday.  I went out to put my kit in the mailbox yesterday morning, and the pesky mailman had come by early.  :knuppel2:  So your kit won't be going postal until tomorrow, Heidi.

But I did manage to get 2 cards done using my kept kit.  I combined them with the bokeh challenge.

Easter Bunny (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=77&pid=1225#top_display_media)

He should meet the requirements for my kept kit project - it is kinda hard to see, but I embossed the scalloped oval with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder.

Easter Chick (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=77&pid=1226#top_display_media)

And I'm pretty sure this is a first - I'm the first one to post a project.  :o

WTG, Sarah! I can see the embossing peeking out on your oval & like both your kept projects!

My 2 kept pieces are in the mail (last Mon.)--1 to CG & 1 to Melissa. They should be arriving soon. One of them is 'Springier' than the other, but I like both of them. That's not a 'first' for me, but still rare. ;)

Giving props to Sarah & any KIAE swapper who incorporates other AI challenges & topics in their projects. When April & I started KIAE, one of our mutual goals was to see swappers do that very thing. We saw it often on 2Ps & we're pleased to see it continue here @ AI.  O0

Received my kit from Melissa today. I hope to play with it soon. Had to take my little one to the doctor this morning, so I don't think I will be able to make anything today. Love the images you included!

Also received an envelope from Daniel. I will email your projects in a bit!  O0

Sarah, I love both of your projects! Those images are so cute!!

I hope your little one will feel better soon, April!  I am glad my kit made it!  I'm glad you liked the images--I am trying to make myself (and I guess you too since you got the same images, lol) use some of my "less often" used stamps. I like the images and I do not know why I do not grab them more often.

Post by: Looser on March 10, 2015, 09:37:40 AM
I hearya about using some of the stamps we have that haven't touched ink in a while, Melissa. One of the pitfalls of acquiring more images can be that some of our earlier faves get a bit neglected.

Since I'm in the process of sorting my stamps for the clean-out, I've been a bit surprised at how many images I've put in the 'sell' box with nary a twinge. Many were un-requested designer samples from several mfrs. & even some that were designer-requested are in the sale carton--usually because they are no longer styles/categories that interest me as much these days.

For most of us, when we begin stamping, every stamp we get is special. As we continue stamping & acquiring stamps our tastes often change. I think there my be an idea for a future KIAE in this somewhere. I'll have a chat with CG & see what we can come up with...

This is so true Daniel, and for some reason it causes me slight guilt and sadness at times, but that is one thing I am trying to learn to accept that "things change" including my tastes--but it does (at times) cause me to wonder if I can trust myself to like an image for the long haul...    Boy who knew stamps could be philosophical?

On that same note, almost every KIAE I do I include images that I want to use more.  Either because they are new or because I have not used them in a while.  It is just natural to me to use this challenge as tool to use stamps like this. :)

LOL, Melissa! Everything is 'philosophy'. ;D Far as 'long haul' for stamps? I never really thot about it. Even tho' I always catergorized my stamps as non-consumables; their style longevity never crossed my mind.

Stamping images have their 'fashion-related' aspect. Some images are classics that will work for decades. Others can be a bit fadish or novelty. When the fad ends, we tend to neglect the image. But... 'Stamping' often allows us to employ those faddy stamps by using them in conjunction with new techniques & styles.

Stamps & Stampers adapt! Ain't our craft just the best! :smitten:

I too hadn't ever thought about my stamps ever expiring---until a few months ago, when I didn't like one of my stamps too much anymore--it was an eye opening day for me when that happened!   ;D

I do like your idea Heidi, of using stamps you haven't used in a while or at all.   O0

Post by: CaribbeanGirl on March 10, 2015, 10:42:29 AM
I'm with Heidi as I tend to include stamps that are either new or ones that I've had for awhile and haven't used much (or ever  :laughhard:) I went through all of my clear stamps Saturday night and organized them into several binders. It is so much easier for me to sort through them now and see what I have. I have a ridiculous amount of stamps  :idiot2: and it was nearly impossible to sort through them all when I needed something for a project.

Hoping to get some crafting done today. My little one went back to school, but now my oldest is home sick  :o

I got the fabulous kit LeighAnn sent today.  I love it.   :smitten:  So many goodies, I don't know where to start.

I'm like Heidi and CG, I try to include either new or neglected images as a prompt to get me to use them.  I also try to include some neglected embellishments.

I too hadn't ever thought about my stamps ever expiring---until a few months ago, when I didn't like one of my stamps too much anymore--it was an eye opening day for me when that happened!   ;D

My problem is less that my tastes have changed and I don't care for my images as much (although that occasionally happens), and more that I find new images that I love.  So I buy more stamps, and I just don't have enough time/ need for all the stamps I have.  So the older ones get neglected.

I know what you mean, however, I feel like we do have to buy new images if we don't want to send out cards with all the same images.  You can stretch your stamps, but some people also notice if you use the same images a lot.

Post by: Looser on March 11, 2015, 11:44:23 AM
I'm enjoying the chat about under-used stamps. When buying gets really silly is when you buy the same stamps twice. BTDT!

For those who have neglected some stamps due to 'whatever'... Do you have images (including sentiment stamps) that form a core in your collection?

And speaking of sentiment stamps... Do you sometimes find that you have the 'correct' sentiment for a project, but the font isn't what you want/need? If so, how do you deal with it. Note: this assumes that the project really requires the use of a sentiment stamp. ;)

Yes this is true for me as I've shared with Heidi and others---though I'm not sure I can same too much b/c one year a relative gave me the exact same store bought card for my birthday 2 years in a row....and I noticed, though I didn't care b/c it had a nice message and I figured they really liked that message for me!     I also didn't know the stores kept the same cards each year...

Plus, I am noticing that I am starting to be drawn to stamp images that I am drawn in in my everyday life---for example, I like watching birds more and more and thus I am drawn to bird stamps more than I ever have been!

Title: Re: MARCH 2015 KIAE Signups Closed/Partners Posted
Post by: yellowcherrios on March 11, 2015, 11:52:01 AM
I have lots of Happy Birthday stamps and a couple Thank yous, but I have had where I wanted a different font.  And I think with one occasion I just used what I had and told myself "maybe they won't notice"; another time, I printed the sentiment (it was a "thank you" or something, thus no copyright infringement) and cut out with Spellbinders.  I've also stamped out each letter with one of my alphabet fonts using the font I liked more--I think that was the last time I did that!

I have lots of nature stamps---though I am really getting drawn to more architectural stamps (like my column I used on Daniel's Winterfest challenge), but I am not sure how to use them.   :-\

I often wish I had a sentiment phrase, but I never buy those b/c I am not sure how to use them or if I'll need them...but I see many cards (even on AIs) that use them that are really neat.
Title: Re: MARCH 2015 KIAE Signups Closed/Partners Posted
Post by: howdyheidi on March 11, 2015, 11:56:13 AM
Very infrequently I will have a sentiment stamp that is a style of font that is too grown up for a kid card (usually because it is cursive) or too child like for a grown up card.

I think background stamps stand the test of time as basics in the collection.  As well as many sentiment stamps and flowers.

I'm not sure if I have any images that form the core of my collection.

As for sentiments, I have a ton of them but I tend not to use them all that often.  And of course, about half the time when I do, none of my sentiments are the right font.  Usually, I just work with what I have.

Sarah, so glad you liked the kit! When I saw you were my send to, I added the critter stamps. I just finished fussy cutting them all last night. What a pain! I think I need to get the dies for that set.

I like the stamp talk, I will come back to that when I have more time.

Just wanted to pop in and share 2 cards from my kept kit.

This was fun to make. Nice thing about apply the dimensional paint (Tulip) with fingertips? It rubs off fingers easily. ;)

Love the card, Melissa! Your embossed & colored tissue technique is very cool! I thot (at first) that you had done the color with StampWilly's Chalk Oldies idea. Tissue isn't always easy to work with, but (unlike some vellum) it can be wet down, inked & dried for interesting results. TFS!

It was chock full o crafty stuff!

I figured it would definitely keep you busy.

I've got my received kit piece in the works.  And I have a couple of other projects with my kept in the works too.  Hopefully by next weekend they will be ready to be posted.

And everyone is creating amazing pieces this month.

I went to a craft night last night and as I was pulling out of the driveway, I checked the mail and Aprils kit was waiting for me O0. It had so many fun images to work with, I ended up with 3 finished cards out of it. I will post them tomorrow :-)

Warning- project overload! I've put both kits to good use this month! Last night I also worked with some of the leftover images that I had received from Sarah. I plan to make them into some cards later this week.

Here's  my final shares from this month. I don't have very many Easter images it April took care of that with her kit she sent O0 thanks again April  :smitten:

This is one from my kept kit. So much fussy cutting those little critters. I now know why sometimes it's handy to have the coordinating dies!

And these 3 are from the kit I received from April. Sorry for the project overload!

I haven't started on any projects yet this month! In fact, I really need to go back and read the requirements.  Hopefully this week!

LOL, Pug! No need to apologize for project 'overload'. All those AIs who upload to our gallery also post to our forum(s). That's so great!

LOL Heidi! I'm sure you'll get a move on making in time. And I had to go back & check the 'musts', too.

Have fun in Vegas, SWLady.

I got two projects done with my received kit.
This one meets the requirements for this month.
House Mouse Easter Card (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1332&message_id=eaa7b8b878cde8996e3e4c17c7453f72&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

And this one will be my mom's Easter card.
Swinging Tire Swing (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1333&message_id=61172798dc642e93c00b8f909ea5c6b5&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

As soon as I saw the tree image with the tire swing, I knew I wanted to create a card with the squirrel in the tire swing and have the tire swing move.

LOL, Heidi! Guven the reality of all our lives, I figure we're all in the boat of wishing we could do more crafting. I'm just glad we all find a way to do some & share it here.

Our track record for Swap 'follow-thru' & Challenge play is pretty durn good for a small group of friends who are verrrry talented & busy. ;)

Here is my piece for the received kit:  Traveling card (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1348&message_id=910d9e16635d8cd222da2b0e7f2afd73&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

Last night when I was working on this, I felt like this is the closest I have ever gotten to scrapbooking.   ;D

I am attaching a photo below to show the acetate better....

I also had embossed a portion of the acetate Daniel gave me with the clouds, but just couldn't figure out where to put it to work with the "rules" of my card, lol....

I made sure to have the embossing in this card, but I suppose I had the oval too----with the sentiment directly under the bow.

There are some really great projects this month. I definitely have to go back and leave praise for each of you. This month has gotten away from me. I feel like I am so behind on everything that is going on  :-\

I am in the middle of moving, but I took time out to open signups for the April KIAE. Hope everyone will join  #>

Nothing like waiting til the last minute!  ::). Here is a card I made from the kit Heidi sent me.

I love the image! Everything but the card base was in the kit and it has embossing and ovals.
