Are you ready for spring?
This months theme is take flight. You can use any image you would like- birds, butterflies, airplanes, etc.
and the technique is to use watercolor some where on your ATC.

Mail by is March 14th

Any questions, just post them here!

Post by: Utah Ann on March 10, 2015, 06:31:26 PM: Twice now, I have had my watercolor background done, stamped on it after it was dry with versifine ink and twice now after it has dried overnight, when I have gone to add something else the versifine ink has smeared. Should I be using Stazon Ink.

Now I have to start over again. Somewhat discouraged.

My go tos for watercoloring are stazon and archival inks.

What is up with the postal system?! The office I work for has had several insurance payments that have gotten lost in the mail. It's very frustrating!

Are you doing something other than watercolor to it?

I am going to try Staz On later today. At least I am getting practice in watercoloring with each new try. Maybe it is because I am using card stock.
Will give it another try. Crossing my fingers that it works.

After I have stamped the image, I let it dry overnight. Then as I am moving it around to see what else I can add, that is when it get smugged.

Want to get it mailed on Friday.

I'm getting into the habit of setting all inks with a moment of the heat gun (except for my dye inks) just to be sure.

I should had pointed out I don't heat set "Mementos Dyes inks"---I usually don't heat set my mementos dye inks since they dry real quick---now I might actually set them too (and just don't recall) since I am usually grabbing my heat gun after I stamp something every time, lol!

But my distress inks (which I thought were also dye inks?) I heat set them for sure since they seem to attract all kinds of things (like embossing powders) despite it may had been a day or two since I used the distress inks.

Post by: Looser on March 11, 2015, 05:23:34 PM: DIs are dye inks, but they are a bit slower to dry than 'regular' dye inks. That allows us to play with them in many ways that quick-drying dye inks don't. That said, they don't always stamp as smooth as regular dye inks. That's why they are 'Distress' inks.

I've seen some stampers use DIs like pigment ink with EPs. And they are very watercolor technique compatible. ;)

I will be playing with this technique more and watching to see what works best for me, in the future.

I had a similar issue, except, I remembered both the flight and the watercolor components, but realized that the image I used was of a flightless bird. ::) Fortunately, I was able to add some dragonfly ribbon, so I didn't have to start over. Because I really liked my chick.

Ann I am sorry if you didn't see the above note I posted here last Friday. Unfortunately living in a remote rural town means our mail can be sporadic at times with our extreme temperatures (yes, we had-40 degrees below zero) and minimal weekend services. So I would be shocked if it had arrived this early. Probably more like this weekend to early next week. But do know it is on its way and I hope it is worth your wait and patience! ...Jan

Lots of busy people here. Let's all take a collective deep breath in .... and slowly out ..... Ahhh.

I was feeling stressed but now I see I need to snap out of it! My DH is healthy, kids are grown, we're not moving any time soon, at least not on purpose...Oh, and the weather has been beautiful! Life is good!

I'm glad you like the ATC Sheila-Rose!! I love hot air balloons too! I have many good memories from a few times that I've been to the Albuquerque Hot air balloon festival.

Here's a little story about the coffee filter ;) ...

Once upon a time there was a midnight crafter ;D. She needed to stamp a verse, except the surface was bumpy with clear embossing. "Ah ha!" she exclaimed, "What if I stamp on tissue paper, and then glue the tissue to the ATC?" Uh oh, the tissue paper was stashed with the gift wrap under the bed and DH was sleeping. Right in front of her #> she spotted a white basket style coffee filter (it caught the clear embossing powder just minutes before). "It looks a little like tissue to me!", she thought. So she brushed away stray embossing powder and flattened it out a bit. She stamped her verse on the coffee filter with archival ink and glued it to the ATC with a little matte multi-medium. It worked like a charm and everyone lived happily ever after!

If you look closely at the ATC you can see a little filter paper under the "P".

LOL on the filter, Cindi! Yep. Filter paper & tissue (including TP) are close cousins. Your story gave me a good chuckle & only proves that when we need a 'something' to use--us crafters are pretty durn smart!

Kathy. The quilled butterfly is super! I haven't done quilling in donkey's years & doubt I'll get back to it anytime soon. ;D I'm wondering (what else is new? ::))... Have you ever done a quilled piece, applied pigment ink to the top edge & used EP?

I got a lovely surprise yesterday as the snow was coming down... LeighAnn sent me an ATC tucked inside a great card. I hope she can share them with us here @ AI. Definitely a day brightener. :smitten:
