Hi everyone!
Leigh Ann finds her schedule is very full at this time so I will be the substitute the ATC swap host this month. We are running a little behind so I will keep the sign-up list open until Tues. May 5th, 11 pm PST.
I am keeping the theme very simple: Heat emboss resist
Mail date no later than: Wed May 20th.
Looking forward to another month of swapping ATC's!...Jan
Partners for this swap are:
Heidi and Ann
Sarah and Yankee
Kathy and Melissa
Sadie and Cindi
Daniel and Jan
-
Thank you for filling in for LeighAnn and hosting the ATC swap for this month. LeighAnn, I hope you will be able to join us again soon, but understand that you have other things you need to do.
I will definitely sign up!
-
WTG, Jan! Can't sign-up due to my impending move, but hope to get back to AI soon as possible & will see what I can do. Have to see if I shipped any of my EP. I know I sent my heat tool. ;)
ETA: I just checked & I had not shipped any of my EP. Figure I can tuck a few in my luggage. Who needs socks in FL.?! ;D

Nobody until December and then only through January. ;D
Thanks for stepping in Jan. I so want to play. I was just doing some emboss resist on a Christmas card earlier today.
-
I am glad you caught that, Daniel. I think you would have missed EP. Maybe just one or two...
-
I'm in! Just to check though, heat emboss resist is where you heat emboss an image then apply ink over it and wipe it off the image, correct?
-
Heidi, Sarah and Kathy so glad you are joining the fun! And hope you will too Daniel!
Yes, Kathy that's the technique! Folks often learn this technique with dye inks but many other colorants work well too like sprays, watercolor, gelatos and more. I did not specify the type of colorant for this challenge so players can try something new if they like. So glad you all are playing!
-
Yes, I am in and thanks for the reminder. Looking forward to this.
-
Sign me up, please!
-
Just as I was getting ready to do a post here, I rec'ved an email from Jan. Spooky! She & I will be swapmates in May. TY, Jan!
'Course she may also swap with more than moi. She's such a busy stamper! ;D
I found 2 online tutorials about 'heat-embossed resist' that I really like & want to share with y'all...
SplitCoast (http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/embossing_resist/)
Craftsy (http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2015/03/emboss-resist-technique/)
I note that both use clear EP to achieve their look. That's cool, but... Being the clever folks we are? I'm betting some of us will play around a bit. ;)
-
Thanks Jan for the email alerting me and also for stepping in for LeighAnn. I hope things slow down soon for you LeighAnn.
Yes please sign me up for this month! and I am so glad it is a later mailing date, Jan---TY! We have been in and out of town last week and we have to go again after learning about a funeral we need to attend this week, so the late send-off will work out perfectly for me. and just FYI, I am not sure how much I will be able to check in this week due to traveling and attending the funeral etc. But I'll be back next week!
-
Count me in. Thanks Far North for doing this month's swap. Lovepug2 I hope life slows down a little for you. This one sounds like fun.
-
Yes, it sounds like many of our players have very busy schedules right now and/or travel plans. Thanks to those who have sign-on since my last post: Ann, Yankee, Daniel, Melissa, Sadie and Cindi! In fact Cindi sent me an e-mail as she too is busy right now but wants to play. And we all know Daniel's schedule is iffy but glad he decided to play!
I am happy that we can all have fun with this challenge knowing there is some comfort that many have some experience with this technique. Of course for many that will "up our game" to create something with a new colorant or style. Daniel thanks for the inspirational links!
Thanks for deciding you can fit this on in!...Jan
-
...Thanks for deciding you can fit this on in!...Jan
LOL, Jan! Speaking of 'fitting in'... I tucked my index cards (colored & white) into my luggage just today!
We have a good bunch of swappers--7 including you. Still time for other Inksters to join us.
... I am happy that we can all have fun with this challenge knowing there is some comfort that many have some experience with this technique. Of course for many that will "up our game" to create something with a new colorant or style...
Far as 'up the game', Jan? I'm already wondering if I can find a way to incorporate StampWilly's May 'Oldies' Challenge (thumping) in with my ATC. Not because I want to do fewer pieces, but because I love just playing. Nice that lots of us here @ AI share that trait. O0
-
Daniel, count again.
If we have one player sign-on you will have to put on your flip-flops so you can count all of them :laughhard: Three folks Heidi, Sarah and Kathy all signed on initially.

Response from Jan: Daniel, if you are a neat thumper I am not sure how you will use the embossing as a resist. OH no, I forgot you will soon have several hours of flying to ponder the issue!
-
,Who needs socks in FL.?!
Haha! Nerd's right, Daniel, ditch the socks and bring your EP! You're going to like sand in your toes!
Thanks for the heads up Jan. Glad I'm in
-
Yes, we have a great group of 10 players! Thanks everyone for signing on!
Here are the partner assignments for swapping this month. Please contact them directly if you need an address. Looking forward to your post here when your ATC is in the mail and when one arrives in the mail for you.
Heidi and Ann
Sarah and Yankee
Kathy and Melissa
Sadie and Cindi
Daniel and Jan
Do know the partners are also posted on the opening post of this thread.
Have fun creating!..Jan
-
Awesome, I will double check that I have Ann's address.
-
Thanks again Jan for hosting! I Can't wait to see what you all come up with. O0
-
I PMed Yankee since I'm not sure if I have her address. I need to get to work on my ATC.
-
LeighAnn, I appreciate your hosting this challenge for a long-time without any break. So happy to be able to lend a hand when needed! Thank you!
-
Got to FL, pals! Gonna start working on my ATC tomorrow! Fun!
-
Daniel, so glad to hear you made it to FL! I have been testing stamps for your ATC for the last few days. Finally with a combo of stamps I like and are open enough to showcase the technique I made the ATC this morning. Finding stamps for techniques on ATC's can a be more time consuming than when working on tags or cards...just a part of the fun! Hope you enjoy making yours too!
-
I'm planning on working on my ATC tomorrow.
-
Sarah hope you have fun!
-
Yay! I did my ATC this morning & like the way it turned out. (that's even 'harder' than finding the stamps... ;D
About the 'openness' of the image... I hearya! Mine is a bit more solid than I'd thot, but it still allowed me to do the resist part.
I plan to get it in the mail tomorrow.
Hugs to all my fellow swappers. :smitten:
-
ready to start my ATC for Heidi. First I have to clean my desk to have room to work. Must keep the 20th as the end of the challenge, 9 days away.
-
We are having company for a few days, I am glad that the deadline is next week as I have not even started!
-
Sarah, hope you found some time to play with the challenge this weekend. And it's always great to hear from players that while they can not work on their challenge immediately that have a plan in mind to complete it on time. Thanks Ann and Heidi for the update!
Daniel hope you found your way to post office. I put yours in the mail today.
-
I am just about finished with mine. I actually made 3 because I didn't like the colors I chose, LOL. But I picked one and am putting the finishing touches on it.
-
...Daniel hope you found your way to post office. I put yours in the mail today.
No problem, Jan. Just like my old home, the outgoing mail is picked up by the delivery person. Yours is out for pick-up.
Wonder where in the US our ATCs will pass one another? I'm betting Colorado. ;D
-
I can't wait to see everyone's ATCs!
I was reading throug the thread while I ate lunch. Not so much with cardmaking but when I make an ATC, I often struggle narrowing down the stamp(s) I want to use. And as Jan said in her post sometimes it can be hard to find just the right one when you want to showcase a technique.
And as Kathy mentioned about color- sometimes I will start off with a color combo that I think will work great and I get disappointed when it doesn't translate onto my project.
-
Kathy I am stuck still working out the design of my ATC. I've made "sample" ones on scrap CS to test out ideas too, but I have one idea I'm going to try....needless to say, I'll let you know when I finally get it in the mail.
It is neat to me how this simple technique you can do alot with if you want..or don't want too and it'll still look fabulous!
-
I worked on my ATC some on Sunday but my crafting mojo was not with me. It took me 3 tries to heat emboss an image without messing it up. So right now, it is in pieces on my craft desk. Hopefully I'll get a chance to put it together sometime this week.
-
I am running so far behind on this......I will need to refresh my memory on exactly what is considered heat emboss and then hurry up and find the stamps I want to use and get this done.....LOL! I am so thankful that this month we have until the 20th to mail. I might need every second of that.
-
Sadie- On reply #10 Daniel provided links to 2 different tutorials for embossing resist.
Sarah-I placed a special order for you-embossing resist mojo! Hope it arrives soon  Have you trying refilling your VersaMark pad...just a thought.
Daniel-As long as all goes according to schedule mine will catching 1st plane out of town I'm thinking our ATC's will cross in Atlanta, GA.
-
I have an ATC done and I am letting it sit to see if I still like it later. I also did another ATC that is just partially finished but used the same technique.
-
Yay Heidi! I feel sure you will like it tomorrow!
-
Sarah-I placed a special order for you-embossing resist mojo! Hope it arrives soon  Have you trying refilling your VersaMark pad...just a thought.
Jan - it was totally user error. The first try, I touched it and it hadn't cooled so I wiped off some of the embossing and on the second, I over heated it.
And continuing with my lack of mojo, the ribbon I dyed did not take the ink. As I was going to put it on the ATC, I noticed that it was turning my fingers pink. :o
On a happy note, I received a fabulous ATC today from Yankee. I love it.
-
Oh Sarah, hope you didn't burn yourself on top of all the other issues! Sorry to hear about the ribbon too! Darn that is hard way to start a new project! So happy to hear you received a wonderful ATC from Yankee! I will be watching the gallery.
-
Thanks for hosting Jan! I managed to use 2 colored embossing powders in addition to clear, which doesn't happen very often for me. My ATC will be in the mail to Sadie by tomorrow.
-
Yay Yankee, your ATC was the 1st to be received this month. Your ATC looks great in the gallery! (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=1546#top_display_media)
Cindi-I can't wait to see what else you did with embossing powder!
-
I wasn't happy with my ATC and was going to do it over, but my daughter liked it.
Then I tripped and broke a couple bones in my foot, in running around to doctors , I had my daughter put it in the mail.

Yankee, I am sorry you broke your foot. I hope you heal up quickly! Your ATC turned out nice!
-
Shelia Rose-So sorry to hear about your foot! Hope you have a good recovery! Hope to can get to your stamping supplies!
-
I had to delete most of this message as I forgot and gave away to much information. Silly Me. Now I am running out of battery on I pad. Thunder storm took out my computer for a little while
-
I just realized that I gave out to much information. So I can going to try to delete my previous message.
-
Jan got my ATC & uploaded it for me. TY, Jan!
I left a bare comment on the gallery, but will go into detail here. Resist ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1553)
I cut an ATC base from white CS & used Versamark to stamp the fish (a bit of a rather 'closed' image). I used clear EP (Judikins) on it. Using DI (chipped sapphire), I stamped the flourish & scallop shells--then wiped the ink off the fish. The BG color is DI's Tattered Rose. I decided to add a touch more color by using crayons. Yes! My beloved 96+ came to Florida with me! In order to keep the crayon from wiping off the surface, I covered the entire ATC with clear EP to seal it. The EP also intensified the color a bit. By adding a nice yellow green, I colored my fishy resist.
And just for fun I added the sentiment stamp--even smudged it deliberately... #>
-
Mine is going in the mail today for yellowcheerios!
-
Thanks Daniel for your description below. Hope my ATC arrives soon.
Kathy great to hear your ATC is in the mail!
-
I received a beautiful ATC from Iring. The background stamp is similar to the one I made which is on it's way to Iring as I type this. I got done and pictures taken just under the deadline. I hate that it took me so long this month.......but as the saying goes, it is what it it. LOL
-
Yikes, Yankee. Sorry to here about your foot and I hope you are feeling better.
The tail end of last week was crazy. But I finally got my ACT done and it is waiting for my mailman to pick up the mail.
I need to go check out the ATCs that were posted.
-
So now I think I have three ATCs and need to pick one to go out tomorrow. Or maybe I will make a 4th...
-
I so sorry about your foot Sheila-Rose!!! Ouch!! I hope it heels so and you'fe feeling ok.
As I type this, I hear the mailman driving down our street---he never comes before 12:30 and last week he was coming at 5 pm!---thus my ATC will be out tomorrow Kathy!
I finished an ATC I liked over the weekend, just hadn't gotten it into an envelope or gotten myself into my craft room the past 2 days. Today I'm getting in there though!!
-
I love that some of y'all are creating several ATCS! How fun:-)
Yankee, I'm so sorry to hear about your foot. I wish you a speedy recovery.
-
Hooray! Got my ATC from Far North today! Love it Jan!!! O0 :smitten:
-
I got my wonderful, brightly colored ATC from Sarah. Thank you very much.
She even colored the back!
-
Yay, after 11 days of my ATC putzing across the US it finally arrived. It was a fun challenge for me.
You can see it here! (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1565&message_id=9a582753c89eec0d7462af05950aec61&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
Looking forward to see yours too!
-
I received Kathy's ATC and it is gorgeous! I love it Kathy!! :smitten:
-
Sadie, I got your beautiful ATC! Thank you! Between the embossing and the teeny, tiny script stamp it has great texture. I love the colors too! Haha, I just went back and looked at the ATC I sent you, and we did almost use the same background stamp. Yours is script and mine is a dictionary page.
Somehow, even with a Stamp a ma jig, I managed to misalign the flower outline! I did a better job on the ATC I sent to Sadie, but I forgot to photograph it, so here's the one I kept (I've been trying to make 2, one to keep, one to send).
Bloom (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=1566#top_display_media)
Ooh, and I forgot to mention, I love the card Sadie sent with the ATC! It is one of her stencil collage creations from the last fest. Loved that challenge!
-
Lovely entries Jan and Cindi!
Jan, I thought the crayon box image was so appropriate for Daniel!
-
Here is the ATC I sent to Melissa. I am loving doing these ATC's and seeing everyone elses.
Birdie ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1571&message_id=5047c33314dddd6534e9699eb699b357&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
-
Finally I got to post comments for Cindi's and Kathy's ATC's ! I am sorry it wasn't sooner but the system kept logging me out of Artsy Inkers yet I was getting notifications to my e-mail. Thankfully it all seems better today. Anyways I was delighted to see both of your wonderful ATCs! Both include some very creative elements. Thanks for making time to play during this very busy month!...Jan
-
Here is the ATC I made for May's Swap and sent to Iring. I did the emboss resist in a way I saw on a youtube video because I thought it would be neater and I happened to have a background stamp that would work.
Thank you for looking. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=1572#top_display_media)
-
Thanks so much for sharing a different emboss resist technique that is wonderful with your stamps! The magnolia is the exact stamp I had initially pulled for my ATC but I am so glad you gave me inspiration to color it loosely in colors different from the traditional cream-tan tones. Do you happen to have the You Tube address for the technique?
Thanks!!
-
Received my ATC from Heidi, she couldn't decide so she sent two and they both are so pretty and show that spring is finally here in Utah.
We had a long mild winter and our spring has been blessed with rain, rain, rain. Everything is so green.
Thank you so Heidi, I wouldn't have been able to decide either.
-
I also received my ATC from yellowcheerios today. It is beautiful! I love it!
-
Sorry that I've been MIA. Work has been crazy.
I think I'm caught up on all the ATCs that have been posted. They are fabulous ladies.
Yankee - I'm glad you liked the ATC. I would post a picture but I apparently forgot to take one before sending it. Doh! If Yankee would be so kind as to take a photo for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
-
Ann wrote me and let me know my ATCs arrived. I sent her two because I couldn't decide!
One has a summer feel and one a spring feell:

And I also received Ann's ATC! She forgot to photo it, so I added it to the gallery too! Very pretty color choice!

Here's the ATC I sent Kathy:
flowers and butterlies (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1576&message_id=29c72ec3702be1481c6e94fa72ba2096&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)
I'm so glad you liked it Kathy! This swap took me 3 tries to find one I liked!
-
Heidi, it took my eyes probably about a minute or so of really looking at the center of your flowers until I figured out they were domed shape-----for some reason my eye saw them as bowl-shaped depressions into the CS....I was wondering how you did that, then all the sudden I saw the centers as yellow buttons! ;D

Thanks, I did neglect to say that those are enamel dots made by My Mind's Eye. They were just the right color for the monochromatic look.
-
Thanks to Yankee, I was able to post a picture of the ATC I sent her.
Bird Cage ATC (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=1577&message_id=c24e56dd88c2315e10440411f46df042&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

Oh it's nice to see so many ATC's posted at once. And as expected creative ways of using this technique. Thanks Sarah, Melissa, Heidi and Ann for sharing you own personal twist of using this technique...it certainly inspires all of to try a little something next time we think of embossing resist! Thanks for playing and sharing!
