I was die cutting a sortof fancy edge die today so I used my metal shim. There was a very loud pop and now I think the bug is loose and won’t cut or emboss anything.
I do think I will need to replace it, but with what? I loved that the bug was small!! But I have heard that the newer versions aren’t as sturdy.
Any ideas???

Before you toss your CB, double check.
You may be able to pop it back in place unless you see evidence of actual broken parts.
When I still had mine, I had mine popped but got it working by trial & error.
If you must replace good luck. Maybe a secondhand original would be best if the new ones aren't as well made

Daniel, I definitely will take it apart before I buy something new. I have to say, the noise was so loud, I cannot imagine a piece of plastic didn’t break. Thanks!

Bummer! I hope you can put it back together.
I have a Sizzix Big Kick that I like, but it is pretty big.
-
I have a Big Kick too. It is a little larger and does not fold up, but it is light weight. I have taken it several times to my club meeting, so it is pretty portable. I got mine at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, so that helped a lot.

Some of my friends have been talking about hobby lobby lately, so if they take a trip there (it is 45 min away) I will go along and compare prices of the die cutters.
Thanks for the suggestions!

I think I already mentioned in the chat but I just love that new Mini Gemini, but it is a bit costy, comes with a few dies too. Craft direct has sales every now and again on them but if you could use a coupon that would be great at one of the stores but not sure if they let you use them on machines.

Hi Connie. I do really want the mini Gemini. If I can find a great price, it would probably be worth it! I am watching prices right now, and it is a good exercise to make cards without a die cutter for a month or so! Thanks for the ideas!

I will be on the lookout for you, I saw one recently for cheaper but can't remember where right now, they sometimes go on sale when they do a craft day on HSN, they are having their next day I think March 7th but not positive
-
Heidi, are you watching? Thanks for the heads up on HSN craft day, Connie!

I wanted to update that I went ahead and got a Cuttlebug V3.
I am very happy with it so far! They did change the plates so that you can both cut and emboss using the A plate, 2 B plates and their new thicker grey Rubber embossing mat.
That means that I can use a die to cut (A, rubber, B, die, B) and then just move the sandwich around without having to dig out the C plate (A, B, die, rubber, B) to quickly emboss with the die still in place. It really is so much quicker!
I will keep my C plate, but am very happy with the rubber mat! I would imagine it would work in the older Cuttlebug too.
-
When Anna Griffin shows off her cuttlebug on HSN she also uses that sandwich, I think all the new machines went to that
-
Good to know! I did try it and the C plate still works, but the other combo is more convenient.
The rubber mat does smell a little, but I hope that goes away with time.

Do you have dryer sheets with a scent, maybe putting the mat between a couple sheets will help absorb the smell
