Alcohol ink embossed resist-- Winner announced
« on: January 25, 2019, 09:53:05 AM »
I had never heard of using alcohol inks on anything but glossy top surfaces until seeing Jennifer's post and wanted to give it a try.
Here is her video to see how she did it.  https://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2018/12/alcohol-ink-embossed-resist-giveaway.html

I used the smoother side of my watercolor cardstock on my main panel and on the leaves I stamped to cut out and add with dimensional tape I did on the bumpy side of the watercolor and I liked this technique more on the smoother side, but you may like it the other way.  I added gold fixative to mine but it didn't show up as well as I hoped I must not have put my cap on tight enough so it was all dried up, I added my blending solution to it to try and revive it and this is all I could get out, if you have any tips on how to revive it let me know :) Another tip, I had more color on my embossing than I liked so I just used a Q tip with some blending solution to bring back my white embossing.

I would like your panel you make to be most of the card not just a little portion.  No combining with other challenges.
Please use Winterfest 19 AER, when posting your card to the gallery and please share here too when you post.
Hope you have fun playing with this technique.

I had not seen that video before!  Lots of different variations. I like where it looks blotchy instead of when she swipes it, but I will try both ways and see.  Thanks for hosting!

I just finished making 3 backgrounds for this challenge but still need to make them into cards.  I am disappointed that 2 of my mixatives are dried.  It reminded me that mixative need a considerable long shake.  There is a shaker bead in each mixative if you and not hearing it then as Tim has said it needs to be loosen.  A map pin put in the top of the bottle nozzle will often release it from the nozzle and beating the bottle on the edge of a furniture will often release it from the bottom of the bottle.  Once the bead is released one needs to return to a good long shake.

If you are trying to use an AI bottle that hasn't been used for a long time you may and have difficulty removing the cap....you might want to try vise grips.

Jan I couldn't get my fixative to do anything until I added the blending solution, but it didn't last long and it wouldn't shake anymore.  I had one bottle top I couldn't get open too, but didn't try to find anything to help, just went with another color.

This was fun! I love the subtle look of the image showing through the background. I used background stamps to stamp all my pieces. On the green bg I used gold mixative but it didn't show too well.

I used stencil and embossing ink, white embossing powder.  I used green and blue alcohol inks and silver mixatif
But i diidn’t like the results Jennifer got by dragging it all over so I only used the silver mixatif on edges and sides.

I made two cards with backgrounds.

Here are links to my 2 cards:  Both are using the heat embossed technique.  The 1st is a valentine- http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=23&pid=4357#top_display_media

Card #2-is a leaf background--http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=23&pid=4357#top_display_media

I will post my 3rd card as I can....I am having a terrible time sizing it the proper size for the gallery.

Thanks Connie for your suggestions for my thick mixatives...I think mine where in extreme cold/heat conditions during the move and some of the resin must have been effected ecause even after lots of time shaking they remained "gloppy".  Anyways I had them for many years. Thanks for the opportunity to try this technique!...Jan

What a crazy week! I haven’t had time to try this yet, but I intend to work on it tomorrow!  Hopefully I will be able to figure out a card too.  That is often what takes me so long with background challenges.

Well, progress!  I do have some backgrounds but can’t figure out what to do with them yet.  I know she said this in the video, but I was surprised how much AI this used. I had to reapply the ink a couple times to fill the background.

I don't remember that as much, maybe because I used a lot of my blending solution that helped move it around.
