Title: Whatcha working on?
Post by: Craft Nerd on January 23, 2016, 10:14:05 AM
So have you gotten started yet?  What are you going to tackle first?

I just finished the cheat sheet and need to figure out where I'm going to start.  And making the cheat sheet was more difficult than usual because I had a lap full of pets.  It is kinda hard to fit 2 dogs, a cat and a laptop in my lap at once.   :laughhard:

Sarah, it looks like your pets want to get in the action too! I just finished Jan's warm up challenge a bit ago. I am now looking through the challenges to see what I want to start on next! Looks like some people have gotten a good start already.

April ;D

I am going to go and look at your cheat sheet ( thank you) and get started on something.  I probably should get dressed first in case I can't talk hubby into grocery store duty.....or maybe not!  I need to throw my work sweaters in the washer cause they all smell like a welding shop and maybe my coats and gloves too....after that it's a crafting Saturday with the Artsy Inkers....... :(

I had a rough start this morning, but am feeling more energetic now.  We have over a foot of snow and it is still coming down so there is some snow day stuff to do as well.  And I feel like I have had more than my fair share of parenting to do the last couple days so I am definitely ready for crafty therapy!

I just finished the warm up activity, just in time for the deadline.

I may do LeighAnn's Stamp Your Ground Challenge first, but I am also going to just take a look at the cheat sheet and brainstorm.

I'm working on April's (stand tall) challenge. Planning to tackle a few other starts since I've (maybe figured out how to do a scan & upload on my friends' puter. Check out my 'layers' in the gallery. ;)

I'm finishing up lunch, then it's go time!

I'm not sure which one I'm starting first, I need to look at the cheat sheet again!

I've started on a combo of impress me, stamp your ground, standing tall and material girl.  I've got the background stamped and the base of the standing tall card assembled.  I'm waiting for my impressions to dry.   I think Surprise your Valentine is next of EFink.

I'm doing what I always do--copying and pasting all the challenges and sample cards into Word documents.  I started doing that way back when Two Peas would crash during our events.  I like having all these ideas at my fingertips so I continue the practice.

I know myself well enough to know that I won't accomplish anything else today, but I'm tempted--such terrific challenges!

Thank you to everyone hosting a challenge; I'm looking forward to seeing what the participants come up with.

Daria

ETA:  It's weird.  This is the second post I've made today, and with both of them, they didn't show up until I re-did them.  Anyone else have that happen or is the gobblin only at my house?

Well, I just finished my challenge post...yeah!  I need to take a break now and then I will be back to work on responses to my warm challenge...the gallery is full of wonderful work on backgrounds. I can't wait to read about everyone's work!
See you again soon....Jan

I just finished one more Warm Up Quick and Easy background on a tag (the one with a toothbrush), even though that challenge is over!  I was having fun with it.

I read through all of the challenges.  I was going to try the texture press one but on first hunt, did not see my whipped spackle texture paste and I'm pretty sure I have it; somewhere!

I had an idea for Stamp Your Ground and went with it.  It's ok.  Maybe I'll like it better as a background once I do something with it.

I love the challenge samples!  I'm thinking I might try Daria's Negativity challenge next.

Have a fun crafty day!

still haven't decided what to do yet, but I am finally all done with the chores I needed to get done, still could use to hand wash a couple things I don't put in the dish washer but they can sit there over night right.... Oh I really need to get a work out done, haven't done that the last few days cause I needed to get out of the house early but I can't put it off again, so after that and a quick shower I will be ready to play, all excited about the different challenges

Oh man, I haven't gotten any further with my craft stuff.  We now have 2 feet of snow and each of us has taken a turn shoveling but we aren't nearly done.

I did post photos of projects that I had already finished before WF and I printed out the challenge cheat sheet.

I am going to take a look at the gallery, then cook some dinner.  I will be back for Bingo.

I just got on for today. I am reading all the challenges to see what to work on first. I did take a picture of my workspace but haven't posted it yet. I'll do that still. Looks like some great challenges!

Oh, and I want to do the warm up challenge with rubbing alcohol even though it's over ;-)

Well, I thought I was going to have all of the posted challenges finished or in the drying stage by the end of today, but then I got on and there were 2 more challenges.   :D

I just need to finish the fabric flowers, and my standing tall/ stamp your ground/ material girl/ impress me combo will be done.  I finished the Valentine's surprise card and my EFink and Negativity card is drying.  I also worked on a cast using paper towels.

Oh, and while I was crafting this afternoon, my dog, Dashiell, decided that he needed to be in my lap.  I figured if I let him up, he would get down after 5 minutes because he wouldn't be able to get comfortable.  Nope.  He spent about 30-45 minutes in my lap.  Believe me, it is not easy to color when your dog is using your right arm as a pillow (I'm a righty).  And while he was in my lap, my cat, Nora, came over and started crying because she wanted to be in my lap too.  She even got up behind the tv to see if she could get on my craft desk and get to my lap that way.  She was not successful.  And I eventually transferred Dashiell to the couch with a blanket and he settled in there.

I took some pictures with my kindle since I figured it would amuse you guys.

That is freaking hilarious! The only dog I have ever owned that wanted to sit on my lap was a 65 pound dalmation Max.  The itty bitty dog just wanted to sit next to me not on me.  The lap is for kitties.  LOL

I have done Jan's warm up challenge, the negative challenge, the stand your ground challenge, and I just finished the stand tall challenge.  I need to prep some things for lunch tomorrow and get some supper.  I have been watching the West Wing the last few weeks and am in the last season and the last three discs.  I always start to feel lonely as the series winds down on my TV because I know it is going to be over, which is ridiculous since I own the entire thing........

I think I might close down for a while and see what happens after I finish the prep and eat supper.

Sadie - I love the West Wing.  Have you watched Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom?  In my house, when it gets cold, I usually have 2 dogs and a cat piled on me. The upside, is that it helps keep me warm.  And Dashiell is not an itty bitty dog, he's about 30 lbs, not as bad as 65 but definitely not a lap dog.

I need to get off the computer and back to my craft desk.  I have a few more things I want to finish tonight.

Sarah, your pets sure do like you!  I am not sure I could have colored like that at all!

We have just started watching the second season of the Newsroom.

Sadie I have felt that way about tv shows ending also.

Kathy, glad to see you here!

I did Heidi's impress challenge, it took 3 tries before I got it right, while that was drying, I did the negative die challenge, so I have two more cards done for February birthdays :) it's too dark to get good pics, so I will take pictures tomorrow after I get home from church

Everyone has posted so many great cards in the gallery!  Great start to Winterfest!

I managed to get a card done today for LeighAnn's challenge.  I will take a photo and post it tomorrow with daylight.

I have not decided what to work on next.

I spent most of the afternoon working on the Valentine surprise, and then realized that the title actually meant the card needed to be a valentine card......LOL.  Started again and got one done.  I think I am probably done for today.  I need to decide which cards I am doing which days so I have a plan for the work week.

Craft Nerd, no I haven't seen that show.  I am still morning the end of West Wing for this year.  I always get teary when all the good guys leave the white house in the last episode.  It's not like I haven't seen it before.....LOL!

We had a good Funday Sunday lunch.  The daughter texted last night and said she was bringing a cake for lunch, I answered her with "ok, thanks".  This morning after I got up and had coffee I realized that today would be the Sunday for our anniversary lunch......no wonder someone else was bringing the cake, and it was a good thing she did because I didn't bake one for today.

I am going to go look at the rest of the challenges again and see if I can come up with a plan.

Oops!  Haha!  I've done stuff like that before!  Can't wait to see your Surprise!

Thanks for the pics Sarah!  This weekend a warm lap dog might be nice!  Our dog is about 53 lbs.  She jumps up and puts her paws in my lap.

I feel like the slowest stamper ever!

Today I added some stamping in embossing paste to a background piece I had for a start to the Impress Me challenge.  I finished the Standing Tall challenge.  Woo Hoo!  And I think that's it.  I started with a huge mess in my craft room and now there is a big mess in the kitchen too.  ::)  I think I'd better do some picking up before I start anything else.

I almost started your 3 in 1 challenge.  I was going to combine it with Standing Tall, but it seemed like it was complicating it so I decided to do Standing Tall on it's own.  I stamped on printed paper, but not really enough to alter it.  I'll try again.

I'm kind of anxious to try Looser's casting call soon.

Oh, and I take that back about the dog ... she just hopped up in my husband's lap!

This evening I corrected my inside, outside and a surprise tutorial on my the blog.  Thankfully Sarah caught a 1/2" typing error on the posting of the matchbox drawer length. Now it should be good for all the other players ...thanks Sarah!

Thanks Jan and Sarah!  I'm hoping to try the matchbox sometime this week.

Right now my coffee filter is sitting out to dry so I can maybe use it in a trash card for Utah Ann's challenge.  Instead of rinsing it out, and losing some of the color I'm hoping once it dries I can just brush off the last of the coffee grounds.

I have finished 2 challenges now that I just posted Craft Nerd's 3 in 1.

I might work on the tower card next.

Sadie, Happy Anniversary!  You have a very good attitude about having to restart your project again.

Iring, that is fun that you are spreading out your craft stuff to the kitchen too!   ;D Actually, I do all my heat embossing in the kitchen on my flat glass stove top. I figure that is much more heat safe than my regular craft space, and I don't have a plug there.

Jan, thanks for writing such a good detailed instruction for your challenge!

We take our trash out on Tuesday nights, so I should really try to sift through the recycle bin before then.

We are having spaghetti and meatballs tonight because it is easy.  Hope you are all doing well!

Hi all!

Still haven't quite finished anything, but I have a 3 in 1 and an inside outside surprize going. Next I want to do the EFInk and I am not sure what else! Still need to post the picture of my desk before!

Heidi's got the right idea!  We need easy dinners during Winterfest!  I went grocery shopping today and got ingredients for quite a few crockpot and soup and salad meals.  I'm off to check the gallery and will also check to see if the Bingo words have been posted!

I've got a project finished for all of the challenges except the inside, outside, surprise.  That one is still in the works.  I just need to post pictures.  And I'm hoping to make a couple of more projects before the fest is over.

Sadie, I was watching the West Wing too! One of my favorites and one of the few boxed sets we own. I always have to have something on while I'm crafting!

I've managed to finish 3 cards but haven't got a chance to post any yet. I have a 4th one drying and I need to recreate my tower card. I needed to make a birthday card to send out and put it in the mail before I photographed it  ::).

We are having leftover chili tonight. I told DH to expect a lot of easy or crockpot meals for a while since the fest was going on plus I'm having fun checking out the new Cricut. That part is all his fault  ;D

I hope to work on Jans challenge later this evening.

I do not have anything in the works right now.  Yesterday a friend came over to make cards, and since she is a beginner, I spend most of the time helping her make two cards she wanted to, and then I did some stuff with her scraps.  The fun thing is that I made something I liked and then she gave me a fun idea on how to turn that same card into a Christmas card!  So I am in the middle of making two Christmas cards today.

I will work on some more projects for Winterfest too. I found some more glue sticks today in a drawer, which is good because I let the scouts borrow my glue gun and they used up all the glue sticks I sent with it!  I want to do Daniel's casting/molding challenge with that.

LeighAnn, that is fun that you are having time to craft and work with your new circuit!  Tonight we are having leftovers, and tomorrow we will have more crock pot, so I am going with easy meals too.

Stampwilly and CraftNerd, that is great that you are nearly done with the challenges!  Way to go!

Looking forward to Bingo tonight!  It is getting exciting!

Just uploaded my last two cards.  This has been a busy week, I hope to find some more time before WF 16 ends.  Looking to work on Daniel's Casting call, Stamp your Ground and Three in One.  Must  check the ending date to see if I can make it.  Also am way behind in leaving praise and must get on that as well.

Being retired doesn't mean you have more time.

Started taking a camera class last night (6 week class).  This is my very first camera class.  But is for my new camera a Sony 6000A.  Wish me luck.

I have uploaded 5 projects (plus some for my own challenges) for 4 different challenges now.  There are 6 more!   I hope to have time this weekend to work on more projects because I am having a lot of fun!

I got behind in commenting but have made some headway on that today too.  I love fests because everyone gets so creative!

Ann, I hope you enjoy your camera class!  That sounds fun!

Ann - have fun at your camera class.

I finished up another card for standing tall and surprise your valentine last night.  I just need to photo them tomorrow.  I'm planning on working on a Bingo twist card tomorrow since I need a birthday card for my second cousin thrice removed. I know that sound weird.  He's my dad's cousin's grandson and he is going to "college" (it's a trade school) near here.  So I met him for the first time in September.  But we're going to dinner for his birthday this weekend because he's on the side of the family of the other cousins who are coming down from NY this weekend.

And I think that may be it for me for WF16.  I've got a busy weekend ahead.  I've have a hair appointment tomorrow and dinner out with the extended family.  Then Sunday we're going to Universal.  Monday is lunch at Animal Kingdom and window shopping at downtown Disney, which is now called Disney Springs, which is weird and I don't think any of the locals are buying into the name change.

It is hard to believe that Winterfest is coming to a close.  I hear that Craft Nerd has an idea for a hangover challenge, and that is good to hear because I never like challenges to end.

I am hoping to get one more challenge done today.

Can't believe it is the last day of January already!
Title: Re: Whatcha working on?

This week went by quick! I got quite a few challenges done and I may get to finish a couple more today. I've had so much fun! I'm way behind commenting on threads and leaving praise so I need to get on that.
I've really enjoyed the challenges this fest!

I worked on some last night and went to change my trimmer blade. First I didn't realize I got the wrong one, second the little wire broke. And to top it all off, while I was attempting to change it I cut my finger. My hands were cold, so I honestly didn't really feel anything but I saw what I thought was red ink on my trimmer, but nope! It wasn't a huge cut but I guess where it cut made it bleed more, it bled forever. So now I'm out a trimmer and band aids.

I did get two more challenges done today.  That is 9 out of 13, by my count.  I am going to call that done since it is getting late!   I did post my photo of my after desk, and it will be fun to see how the rest of you fared insofar as clean up.

LeighAnn, that stinks about your timer. I wonder if fiskars would replace your wire.  That must have been scary to get cut like that!   Not sure if you needed to buy a new trimmer now, but fiskars did come out with a new one where the blade replacement is a bit different and they have a better way than the wire to get a straight edge.  Might be worth checking out.

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Title: Re: Whatcha working on?
Post by: Far North on February 01, 2016, 09:53:36 AM
Sorry LeighAnn-it's a real bummer to have wire break when you are working on a special event!  Do know that while Fiskars is friendly about replacements it does take  "forever" to receive the replacement--like 6 weeks.  You can fill out the request for a replacement online.  They will only replace the wire and will send instructions on how to change it out. You will need a photo of the broken wire attached to the trimmer and the model #.  Once they approve your request they will tell you that you can cut off the wire and still use your trimmer.  It means you  don't have to buy a new trimmer while you are waiting but I really like that feature...otherwise I'd buy a different trimmer. Do know if you ruined a blade when the wire broken they will also replace it.

I have had 3 wires break over a 5-10 year period...and they have replaced it each time. If do not hear back from Fiskar's in a timely manner do follow-up with them-1 time they "lost" my initial request for a replacement and another time the wire did not arrive when the said it would-they replaced it but it took another several weeks.

I do a large % of my purchases online. Now I have created a separate e-mail file for all of my on-line orders so I don't have to search so far when issues arise.  It has really made my communication efforts easier to have their documentation at my fingertips.

Good luck with your replacement efforts!

Yikes, LeighAnn.  I've finally gotten to the point when I don't cut myself every time I change my blade.  And I had to google to see what you guys were talking about regarding a wire.  I have a fiskar, but it is the one with the rotary blade so there is no wire.
